now after around 5 seconds of these speeds it is reduced to 40kb/s and they cant get higher except for the odd spike.

I dont know much but I try...
can you please tell me what version of hfs you have?
when it goes down to 40kbs does the total of everyones connection speed add up to 40kb or does everyone get a speed of 40kb?
Maybe your isp has capped your internet access for some reason?(ie, going over donwload/upload quota)
Check the limits menu for anything that may be the cause.
Menu > Limits

Rejetto, when the anti leech feature kicks in does it say anything in the log?(also any other features that will limit the speed?)

Thats all I can think of for now.

hi dizzybro, the thing to do, is to try with another software (possibly http or ftp), so you can see if the problem is on HFS or on your ISP.
can you do that?

if you log disconnections...

This is a "Me, too" posting.  A friend was downloading from me.  He has Comcast and I have the fastest DSL available through ATT/Bellsouth.  With every other program shut down on both our computers, the best speed he could get was 49kbs.  Hours later, at 76% completion, HFS suddenly quit!  Version is 2.2a.

Then, the problem is hardly to be found on HFS.

Clients can only download as fast as you can upload. What are your Download and Upload speeds?
