WARNING: this requires version 2.3, won't work with 2.2

You can get emails by your HFS when, lets say, a file is uploaded.
Because HFS can run external programs with macro {.exec.}
You can read more about template macros on the documentation/wiki.

Just download a software like these, that will send an email in an automatic way (command line).

http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/cmdlinemail/cmdlinemail.htm
http://www.blat.net/

You can then run these programs by the template itself in section [upload-success]
or better you can use event scripts (to keep things separated) with section [upload completed]

Hope it helps

Does this feature work in the portable version of HFS?

yes.

anyway: there's no "portable" version of hfs.
just tell hfs to save options on file, and now you are portable.

I'm guessing your not aware of the portable version of your great software? http://portableapps.com/node/11804
I have been using it on my usb stick for a couple weeks now from many different computers and it works great!

anyway: I was trying to get the "email trick" you were describing in this thread to work and I keep getting this error message when I try to run it from one of the templates

Quote
macro error: exec
not supported or wrong number of parameters

This is the line I have in the template.
Quote
{.exec|bmail.exe -s localhost -t myemail@address.com -f mycomputer@home.com -h -a Subject -b Body -d.}

I am using the command line email program you suggested, bmail, with a simple SMTP server (which works perfect if I run the command myself from the command line) and I have the file bmail.exe in the Data\Shared folder.

Am I using the .exec. macro correctly?

nice to know.
it's not exactly a "version", it's just a pre-configuration, the program is the same.
this consideration won't affect its usefulness.

the version distributed by port.apps is rather old.
replace it with a newer one.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

 The 'pre-configuration' of HFS here http://portableapps.com/node/11804 is using version 2.3 beta Build #183 and I know your up to Build #216 now but one of the most important features to me for the 'pre-configuration' HFS package I'm using is it being portable. If I use Build #216 from your website and install it to my USB stick will it also be portable? It's important to me that no settings, files or registry settings are saved to the local computer, I need everything to be self contained on my USB stick.

 Thanks again for all your time and effort with this software.

as long as i know, asking (once) HFS to save options to file is the only thing needed to make it portable. (as i told you above)

I guess you can just replace the exe file. I cannot know if that's enough, the guy who made the package knows.

Thanks again for your prompt replies rejetto,

I'll make backups of what I have and do the update then I'll let you know the progress / status if you like.

I do have just one question though, can you tell me if I have properly formatted the following line for the {.exec.} macro

Quote
{.exec|bmail.exe -s localhost -t myemail@address.com -f mycomputer@home.com -h -a Subject -b Body -d.}

i think you should put another | after bmail.exe

to be honest, i may have made it easier, to work without this pipe.
-_-

Hi Rejjeto
To receive an email when a user receives a new file in his carpet I am using the save2ftp.exe together with HFS 2.3-232... save2ftp.exe is monitoring the user`s carpet for any changes, so save2ftp.exe can email as an advice to specific users... Also, save2ftp.exe can run any batch file. I have proof that both softwares (HFS & save2ftp.exe) make a excellent combination...
Congratulations for your HFS...

if the content and destination of the emails are fixed or restricted, there's no problem
