&RQ / What is more important for You?

for me, Server-side Contact list is not very important. There is no need someone at Mirabilis console to have a look at my contacts. Sometimes, this can cause troubles....;) I think, U have an idea what I'am talking about...;)

File-transfer is not in my urgent needs too... People, any kind of file transfer will expose your IP addresses not only for people you thrust!!! File transfer facility, as any other type of DIRECT CONNECTION to your PC is not a good idea in these times of enormous virus invasion....

Please - think well before write fast!

and finally - OFFTOP - the thing, I really need is capability to check my invisible "friends"... with new method of detection, just as Alki proposed... It works fine! ;)

I'm agree that File-transfer - is a very very very bad thing!!!
Absence of this and other bad features of ICQ in &RQ was the main reason of using &RQ in our organization.

Hm, I installed &RQ .17 and I also get access violation when trying to exit. It also happens most of the times like in Electron's case. My OS is WinXP Professional.

WinXP must die...

I've decided to return for a while to .16 ... And the bug gone...
No violations... Strange?
2 Pofigator: I don't think that I have incorrect dlls. It's impossible, because I've just reinstalled windows completely!!! And I didn't installed any special drivers or smth. else...

My words to you was:
In your case - OS is clear, so I advise to check a new or other version of drivers.

I also have this problem and only with the latest test build of .17 .
It appeared no matter what contact i'd been talking to.
After downgrading to .16 it is completely gone.
So I strongly believe it is neither related to corrupted history nor to incorrect OS drivers.

it is about 10 instances of .17. build used on different stations,
but we have not any errors

But I don't have any errors while reading the history!!!
I have an access violation when I exit &RQ!
It happens not every time...(But most of the times after chatting) And even without reading history...
We have about 90 instances of &RQ in our organization.
As you understand there are many different hardware and OS configurations. During last year there was one one day when all of instances doesn't work - it was discussed at this forum (48% connecting). All other time all instances work fine.

At our practice - Violation is a common problem of video adapter drivers (rarely - chipset drivers) or when system have incorrect DLL's in system directory of OS.
In your case - OS is clear, so I advise to check a new or other version of drivers.

&RQ / &RQ connect problem

i did not understand the problem
&RQ, after a DNS failure, use a cached IP address for connecting

May be it was my mistype.
May be there was not failure. Who knows...
As I see AOL return on DNS requests different IP at different time.
This usually doing for dividing workload between several servers.
For example DNS reply at time i've writing this msg:
Translated Name:
IP Address:
IP Address:
IP Address:
IP Address:

So really this may be situation when one of this server was down,
or incorrectly working.
&RQ try to connect and can't connect.
then get IP from cache, but cached address already not actual
(may be AOL switch workload to another server with different IP).
So what &RQ will do? I don't know

I think &RQ must try to connect on all returned by DNS-reply IP-addresses sequencely.
Getting IP from cache is economical but there may be probability of errors.

&RQ / &RQ connect problem
« on: December 05, 2003, 06:28:39 AM »
We have the same problem with &RQ in our organization.
Almost all of our &RQ users have trouble whith connecting (48%).
After analize all that was written in this tipoc I think that this is a DNS server problem of AOL. So when &RQ request ip-address of host, and receive bad (or may be empty) ip-address, then it will try to connect to that bad ip-address.
It seems that other ICQ clones check the ip address about it correct.
Or may be after unsuccessfull connect timeout try to resolv DNS and connect again.

Good luck!

Still waiting unicode pathching.
And now waiting resolving current serious connect problem.

&RQ forever :-)
