Title: Better speed coming
Post by: rejetto on December 03, 2007, 03:52:39 AM
Be prepared for version 2.3, in beta testing right now.

Experimenting on build #147 i finally found a way to make speed tests over the internet, and worked like 4 hours on speed optimization.
the optimization concerns high latency (ping) connections but with good speed, like 1mbps (don't know about slower ones).

Foggy and me tested it right now over a 420ms ping connection (italy-australia), with 916kbps (114KB/s at its best).

speed for versoin 2.2a (current official version): 18KB/s

speed for version 2.3 (build #147): 80-90KB/s

That's just great, and i can't wait for it to be published.  ;D

Information for beta testers: speed observed for build #146 was 30KB/s

Excellent.
I do not know if I'll have time before Xmas, but it's in my plan to go the 8th district over here (public librairy) where one the a few optical fiber line is in place.
Have to call first to get info and if your 're interested Rejetto - or anyone eslse- I may bring HFS 2.3 on USB and give U local time.

FYI, #147 has been renamed #160 to let some space to 2.2 maintenance releases.
