like
1. asking a friend to try accessing your hfs from his home
2. using http://canyouseeme.org
The few of my friends still living don't know what a computer is. :)

router & port problems / Re: Can't connect from 2nd computer

I'd forgotten all about this. I can't connect from either computer at the moment and I have just posted in the HFS forum. The addresses are 192.168.1.67  and 68

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Self test not working
« on: January 10, 2013, 09:25:06 PM »
I hadn't used HFS for a while and now when I do a self test I get an error saying "Sorry, the test is unavailable at the moment." Port is forwarded, including deleting and adding a number of times to make sure. I disabled my firewall but still no joy. I'm at a loss as it generally works with no problems.

Good luck with the apartment hunting Rejetto, I hope it's relatively stress free. I've lived here 35 years, but I still remember the stress of finding a house to buy and move into.

edit: something strange is happening. If I set port to 8000 in HFS then try self test, the port changes to 8080. If I try self test again, the port in HFS changes back to 8000. I set port to 1001 in my router and in HFS, tried self test and the port in HFS changed to 8000.  :o

router & port problems / Can't connect from 2nd computer
« on: October 09, 2012, 03:18:01 PM »
I'm unsure what to search for, and looking through manually is driving me mad. :)

I have two computers on a network that I want to use HFS on. The main one is connected to the router by ethernet, this one is connected by wireless, but this one is unable to use HFS. To be honest, I don't know where to start to get it connected. I need to send files to others, but I don't need to connect to the other computer. I *do* know about port forwarding and HFS works fine on the other computer.

I suppose letting her have the password without them seeing it is the problem, but  I am sure I can work something out

It'as not likely to be Google, the IP address points to an ISP in Beijing.

When I send photo's to friends in China, someone in Beijing always downloads the photo first. Usually just the first photo. The photo's are innocent and of no interest to anyone but myself and the person being sent to, but I dislike being spied on. Is there anyway I can stop this happening?

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / HFS finding internal address on start up
« on: July 01, 2012, 11:45:36 AM »
I have "find external address on startup" checked. Restarting once or twice will usually find the external address, and clicking "find external address" always works. I suspect it might be a problem with Outpost firewall as I never had this problem when I used Comodo. Is there anyone else using Outpost with this problem?

It could be that I don't know what I am talking about, but it seems that HFS looks for the external address but the firewall is taking too long to respond, so HFS goes for the internal address. Does this make sense or am I talking through my hat? ;D

HFS 2.3b build 280. Win 7 Pro SP1 x86. Agnitum Outpost firewall.

Works OK now. Thanks!  :)

I am also having problems. I tried self test on port 80 and after about 10 minutes with no response, I closed HFS using task manager. I setup again using port 9000, ran self test, and after about 20 minutes it said self test on port 9000 had failed, but port 80 had been found and would use that. I ran self test again, and again it took about 20 minutes before I got the reply that the test was successful. A few minutes later my friend connected and successfully downloaded a file. Everything worked fine last time I used HFS so I have no idea what's happening.

Edit: As soon as my friend finished downloading, I ran self test again, and again it is just sat there as though it isn't responding, though I am sure it will now say it worked ok in 20 minutes or so.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: How secure am I?
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:47:03 PM »
Thanks for your replies. Apologies for not getting back to this earlier but I'm suffering from the after effects of spinal surgery, mostly being out of my head on pain killers. :)

Snaker, I open HFS, send a file, and then close it. I've never done any setting up, so I know nothing about homescreen, startpage, etc. Just this minute is the first time I have seen it in a browser. I guess there is much more to it than what I use it for, but for how I use it, there's nothing to replace it.

Rejetto, I suppose I should look into how to set a password. I've never bothered as HFS is seldom running for more than a few minutes and is then closed.

Thanks again.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / How secure am I?
« on: February 01, 2011, 01:46:56 PM »
I've been using HFS for a number of years simply to send files to friends and relations in Australia. I'm a very basic user and don't use any templates.
Last week a friend was downloading a file when I noticed another IP was connected. I checked the IP and it was from China. What would the person have been able to see or do, if anything? I was using port 80, so would I be better using a more obscure port?

Martin.

Menu > clear file system

How did I manage to miss that menu item? I guess old age is finally getting to me. ;D

still the same, but why would I want to click on Yes anyway? I don't want to save the file system.
