Hello, only match I got for "transcode" was:
http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php/topic,7188.0.html

But am confused.

1) I'd like to have a dir full of video files
2) a drop down box that says
   a) divx 320x200
   b) mpeg2 240x160
   c) super low mpeg4 ...at whatever resolution
3) when selecting the drop down box, an .m3u playlist file pops up, and loads a player on the
client's machine, such as vlc or mpc
4) the server transcodes the video live to the client

guessing some php would need to be written, but saw that old post where it said someone has transcoding working via some script.

thanks!

Bump :)

There is a project for HTPCs that transcodes via a web interface:
http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mpwebservices-463/

it's open source, and all the commands are in there, still wondering if live transcoding is implemented
i read the RAWR-Designs readme for the live player, and it doesn't mention it

thanks

you may not get RAWR team's attention if you don't write in their specific forum board

please do not, as this is general to HFS, mencoder is an open source app that can easily transcode LIVE to different formats, including pathetic flash

there are different arguments that can be passed

homepage:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html
and the evil wikipedia link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MEncoder

many kudos to RAWR team, but this is intended for the community in general thanks!

This is something server side not template side. If you were to get HFS to communicate with another program (I believe it is possible now, been away a while), and auto transcode files to .mp4 similar to HD YouTube, before sending them to the user, then yes they would work with RAWR-Player as it is Flash based.

Just to outline, Flash can playback .mov, .flv. .mp4 and .3gp video file formats, as well as some other copy protected ones that I never bother mentioning cause they're useless lol. The basic guide to playback .mov, .3gp and .mp4 using Flash is to use H264 video codec and AVC audio codec.

Otherwise there are other options, like WMP/Silverlight, Quicktime and DIVX plugins... In the future I can see us adding a HTML5 player, but we are nowhere near that being a web standard, so we must rely on 3rd party plugins to playback video, Flash being the safest bet to reach the most people.

Oh, also this program would probably just convert and store them in the folder as playback options... I don't think it would be possible to have it 'live convert/stream' when you select an option... not smoothly anyway, HFS wasn't really built for that purpose.
