D-Link Router (thanks to member moondog)

Before you start, note the address of your router. To find this, in HFS, select "IP address" and look at the unchecked entries. Your router address is usually in the form "192.168....".
Open Internet Explorer or Firefox and type in (for example):
ht tp://192.168.0.1/
Use your password (if necessary), or type in "admin", to access the "Settings" page, and navigate to "Advanced".
Click "Enable" on the "Dlink" page.
Type in whatever you wish for "Name".
For "Private ip", type in your router address. (Do not include "http:/ /". )
For "Protocol Type" check "tcp".
For the last two items, type in "port 80". (Or whichever port you have assigned to HFS.)
Click "Always" and then "Apply" to complete the process.

"NETGEAR WPN824v3" (may be the same or at least similar on some other Netgear Routers)

1) Log on (In your browser from your computer, type the internal address of your router in the address bar like you would a normal site; default is 192.168.1.1)
2) At the menu on the left, under 'Advanced', Click on 'Port Forwarding/Port Triggering'
3) Click on the bottommost option 'Add Service'
4) Add 'Service Name' 'HTTP' or whatever is appropriate as a personal label.
5) Set 'Protocol' as TCP for HTTP or HTTPS port forwarding.
6) Set 'Starting Port' to 80 for HTTP or 443 if you have HTTPS configured.
7) Set 'Ending Port' to the port that HFS is configured to listen on (HTTP, default 80) or for HTTPS, the port that STunnel is configured to listen on (default 443).
8) Set 'Server IP Address' as the Local IP of your server on your home network. If you are unsure, run inconfig /all in cmd.exe on your computer or go to the Attached Devices menu in the router setup page. This should be your INTERNAL IP, not your external one that the router uses. (It should start with 192.168)
9) Click Apply, and repeat as necessary.

At the RULE NAME just add : hfs.exe

At INTERNAL SERVER IP ADDRESS add : 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2 (this is the router address )

Protocol set it on TCP.

External port  : In here put HFS external port (For Example! 12.34.56.78:8080 , where 8080 is the port hfs is running , or what port you see in hfs .

Internal port : The same as above! Or you put port 8080 , or 80 ..depends on what port hfs is working on....
Then click add , and that's it ! :)

If someone wants to download a file from your computer , be sure you provide him/her with your real ip address , not your router address. 95.76.1.1:8080/file <---- Good example 192.168.1.1:8080/file <----BAD example
