HFS is quite different from classic file sharing. First of all, there is no network. An HFS is a web server that uses web technology,

Basic directions:
* run the program,
* drag&drop, in the window, the elements you want to share,
* then communicate to your mate the address of the item s/he wants to download.
After you drag&drop the files, the address is already copied in your clipboard, therefore if you use the ''paste'' command in a (lets say) chat window, you will get to send the address. ''The address is also called URL''.

Keep in mind this is one of the many ways to do the work. If you followed my previous advice, you will not need to run the program before.  Just right-click on the file/folder you want to share, and select ''Add to HFS''. This way HFS will run, automatically share the item, and copy the URL in your clipboard, ready to be pasted.

What's it?

HFS is software designed for file sharing. You can send and receive files. You can limit this sharing with a friend or two, or just be open to the world.

HFS is quite different from classic file sharing. First of all, there is no network. An HFS is a web server that uses web technology, which makes it more compatible.

Secondly, since it is actually a web server, your friends will download files as if they were downloading from a website. They can use a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. Most web servers are designed to publish a website. Just keep in mind it is not designed to do that. HFS is designed to share your files, but you are free to use it in any other way - at your own risk.

Installation

HFS needs no installation. The only file you need to use this program is the hfs.exe. Just put it in a folder of your choice and run it. At first run it will ask you to integrate it in the explorer contextual file menu. Reply yes unless you have a good reason not to. If you didn't reply yes, you can still do the job by clicking menu → other options → shell context menu .

Uninstallation

In the main menu you will find an uninstall command.

How to use it

Basic directions:

  • run the program,
  • drag&drop, in the window, the elements you want to share,
  • then communicate to your mate the address of the item s/he wants to download.

After you drag&drop the files, the address is already copied in your clipboard, therefore if you use the paste command in a (lets say) chat window, you will get to send the address. The address is also called URL.

Keep in mind this is one of the many ways to do the work. If you followed my previous advice, you will not need to run the program before. Just right-click on the file/folder you want to share, and select Add to HFS. This way HFS will run, automatically share the item, and copy the URL in your clipboard, ready to be pasted.
