This project the best that is. It should not die so easily, many forces for its creation are spent!
Pardon for my English....

Project is Dead?

noone is submitting changes and i'm not working on it because it is boring.
it is boring because of how it was done.
i was thinking about a full rewrite in Python language.
this would sure be more interesting.
the only reason why i didn't start yet is that i'm afraid i have not enough time to work on it.
HFS needs less time, in facts &RQ sources are 3 times HFS sources.
You have to spend a long time to get a good IM.
When i started &RQ i had a lot of free time, because i had no job yet.

well, i just had a look at wxPython (wxWindows for Python) and it supports global hotkeys and tray icons. these are usually system-specific features, not available in a portable enviroment. but here they are. :)
These features are the base for a good IM, my point of view.

Are there pythonists out there? :)

many of you may not understand why python would be so much better than delphi to build an IM.
well, i can say you that Delphi is better for speed, and we don't need speed anymore because 1GHz can be considered the lowest target from now on.
On any other side, python is better. A software made in python would be more customizable, extremely extensible and linux compatible.

&Rq  on python... I think it is an interesting idea!!!
And of course the most important thing that it'll be written whith wxWindows!!
I use wx... But not for python... For VC++...
And it's my dream to see RQ written on VC++ :))

Rejetto, you’re out of your crazy and swollen mind :)

If you start (again?) coding &RQ using Python, it will take you ages, or maybe even more to finish this project or at least to finish a half of it. By that time we’ll have a 20 digits uins… but whatever. The things is – you’ve got a source code which is a mess, but somehow you manage to work with it (well, you did)… And now you say it’s boring and shit… Open-source thing did nothing, and it won’t. The only man who can do something with it is… you. The rest of us can only say “I found a bug” “You suck” “Give us some more” "I wanna fuck" and stuff like that. So if you end it up like this, nothing will happen, and one day we’ll get back to the basics and start using AOL ICQ megaLITE!   daaaaammn :?

i understand you, DM, and i think you are mostly right.
it is risky, and it could bring to no result.
but what future do you want for your IM software? just bug fixes?
&RQ misses lots of features and it is hardly expandable.
i do it for fun. if there's no fun, why should i?
i think i should give a try, because if i'm able to get on this Python thing, i would have fun, and that's what i need to carry on.

so...no pythonists out there?

i just told you my ‘win xp + winamp’ point of view… and i understand that you are an enthusiast, and if there’s no fuel there is no action. now you’ve got no motivation…. but if you are fucked up, i can do nothing about that. i’ll just continue using your wonderful program.

i’m not familiar with python, that’s why for me it seems to be some sort of an experiment with a smaller range of possibilities.
your &RQ is pretty good. it’s fast, it’s simple and it’s genius. add users, IPs, client detect (buggy), invisible bug (not workin anymore. have to use DFMa to check out my girlies)…  and still… it has a lot of features missing.

well, let’s see what you can do using Python…. Ok?   B)

at least python seems to have a more understandable syntax than pascal/delphi to me as a c++/c#/perl programmer :) I would be interested to help out.. if time allows me

well, i was taking a look at the Mono project
http://www.go-mono.com/mono-roadmap.html
it seems an interesting alternative to python.
i like python language, but c# has more value on the job market.
and dotnet is easier (or it will)  to distribute on windows platform.
i'm interested in your opinion.

c# -will be GREAT!
But before you'll start a new project, Rejetto, please, it will be great if you'll correct main bugs in &RQ...
4ex, bug with checking invisible status...
So just a final pack of bugfixes, and that's all..
My world is how I creat it.

Hi Rejetto,
before doing a complete rewrite of &RQ, wouldn't it be possible if you
forget about implementing any new features and would just concentrate on fixing the most urgent bugs in 0.9.4.17 ?

edit: just saw Electron's words, funny :D
