Video (.avi or other) preview doesn't work on Folder Lock
« on: October 05, 2013, 09:43:36 PM »
++thx to rejetto , wow a fanstactic job.

Hi all.
I know it was discussed in a previous post but it was years ago.

I was wondering if anyone would have an idea now. :-[
With Any template of RAWR I tried, when I lock a my movie folder or root /, i can't preview my videos anymore but the Download link still works..

DIVX: "The video cannot be reached (401 error) it appears the server is denying access to the file".

I read it's due to .htaccess.

If Unlock and no password, everything is fine and really awesome.. :-*

I run the latest version of RAWR-Template-0.1.3 or same problem with Live 3.0.1 which supports .mkv preview.

I want to make previews of .avi files and need to lock the folder.

Any Idea or any alternatives?

Thanks for any answers. :)
Really appreciated.

welcome!

i remember that problem, even i never faced it.
i guess that video player doesn't support authentication.

htaccess is not the point, because it's a way to configure Apache, that's another software.
HFS is configured in other ways.

I don't quite understand you problem, as i had dabbled doing this with html and hfs live template.
hfs template: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9u5dgydfOEuV3Q4WnZDbkxUTlk/edit?usp=sharing

I did find that when you locked the folder it would cause issues with the streaming and sort, the solution i found was to make a new empty folder with your user access permissions and then have the real folder which contained your movie files.

i will create a temp account for you and upon reply i can give you the live template link that i use.

This is actuality something i've been working on...

I will keep this account up and open until nov 23, 2013

if this is not what you are looking for, please get back to me and i will try to help you out.

Thank you for your time and patience

windows media player doesn't suport "auth" stream(with out some major fiddling), use vlc for it

also, you can do it with html coding and a playlist file. have you ever herd of a "*.M3U"?
A m3u is a pre made cod elist of songs you put there via program or notepad...
using a msu file helps stream multiple files, and can put authentication in the file itself, so you create a list of music and put it in a m3u file the m3u become the single file that you play on a media player...

( yes these are going over music, but video formats also port over with them... )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3U

Here a site that may work for you as well:

http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Stream_Your_Music_Online#Extended_M3U

please note:
--------------------------
Don't Feed the Lawyers:

You could be fined for broadcasting music/movies you don't own the copyright to, and in most cases the penalties are pretty severe. There are also plenty of rabid music industry lawyers with a history of going to great lengths to prosecute copyright violators. That said, be careful how you distribute your streams.
Some of the software solutions listed here have built-in password protection. Otherwise, you'll have to know some SSL and/or password protection web hosting configurations to lock down your stream.
Your other option -- and probably the safest -- is to just keep your station under wraps. You can listen to it freely, but don't go spreading the word. Remember, the internet has ears!
