Thanks.  But, there's no sound.  What form of clickable link allows the end user to achieve playback?

It immediately caused 5 Gigabytes of traffic, but it didn't play any of them.

Need to avoid downloads unless the play button is clicked.
After the play button is clicked then it would be nice to download/play one at a time (not all at once).

that sounds like a mime type issue
is the mime type defined and is it set to open directly in browser?

I've added FAQ

P.S. Throwback-X is working for me, if you remove location.search=shuffle,

...You can add id='menu-bar' to the element the play button should appear...Set var dur=0 to avoid preload...
That made the play button work.  Probably need to Re-shuffle when pause is clicked.

It does still download 1 mp3 file every time a page is loaded, even if the play button wasn't clicked.
So, var dur=0 removed most of the preload bandwidth problem, but not all of it.

fixed (only metadata of first file downloaded)

P.S. you can style the play button  .play {color:green}
next week I'm on holidays

Throwback12! The really fast Throwback (retro) template. Updated.

Throwback12Photo:
It has slideshow, photo thumbnails via load-on-scroll bandwidth saver, mp3 file play, mp3 folder player, etc... and, for speed, the features are provisioned After the file listing completes. It is nice on fast cable internet.  Thanks to DJ for the delete, slideshow and music player scripts

Throwback12music:
It has slideshow, mp3 file play, mp3 folder player.  With no thumbnails, it uses less bandwidth and is easier for the server.
A good choice for dsl and basic cable internet, and/or numerous users.

Throwback12basic:
It supports Dish, Dial-Up, Mobile G, Rural DSL, Mesh, Metered and other bandwidth conservation needs.
This style of markup is able to display file lists to numerous users, regardless of internet speed.

The basic and music versions can run with hfs max connections single-address limit set as low as you want, for supporting a large number of simultaneous users.  However, the photo version needs more connection allotment, at least 8.

It is possible to use any of these as main or diff template, even in combination... Personally, I have basic as a diff template for a public folder.

Try this with any version:  Click the house icon in the upper left.  Click Newest sort.  This has found All of your most recent files.

Try This with either photo or music version:  Use the file search box with a key word and click the magnifying glass icon.  Activate music shuffle player, using the > play icon, which is situated next to Filename sort; and, then scroll down, find and click on a photo thumbnail or icon to begin the slideshow feature (click its > play icon after zooms the photo).
This will do a music accompanied automated slideshow based on the items from your search.
The music version can do it with as little as one connection per address, for a minimal server load.
And, that bit of fun has demonstrated the feature-set for version 12.
