I guess that was the missing? opt-out function.Ping hfs locally +  Restart hfs if no response.

the opt-out function exists, it's "external-ip-server".
You are misusing the other 2 options to get the same result.
Try my advice and see if you get the same. If you do, then that's the right way.
I'm only 99% sure because i didn't try, it's old stuff i barely remember (by reading the source code).
As already said: "ip-services" is not an option/setting, is not designed for people to change, it's the software's internal storing (having no better place for it), and that's why it's overwritten.
Nonetheless, your workaround may even work forever with a bit of luck, but you know you are driving off road.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: hfs.events timed events question
« on: February 20, 2020, 02:55:23 PM »
i don't remember if the execution waits or not.
I would bet it doesn't, unless you use the out parameter, but antway i would make an experiment to know it.
I would do as Mars suggested: your batch file could itself create a "locking" file, which existence will prevent other executions, and it's deleted at the end.

I was trying to make a watchdog (including settings stabilizer) which did not do a write loop.  But, I'm not actually a good programmer, so I didn't figure this out yet.

i meant an event script in HFS like this

Code: [Select]
[every 1 minute]
{.delete|*.tmp.}

but i fear the 'delete' command doesn't support wildcards.
I don't have sources right now and the documentation tells nothing about it.
If it doesn't, you'll have to use also the {.dir.} command or, easier, use {.exec|del *.tmp.}  or something similar

Nice to see RC3! :D According to my tests (if I'm not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong), RC3 (hfs24rc3.exe) comes with 'exactly' the same default template than RC2 (hfs24rc2.exe).

shit, i also made a quick test to verify the new template was bundled, but apparently something went wrong :(
i'll have to release again, sorry, and thanks for reporting

the version of the compiler you are currently using to build hfs24rc3.exe

the old turbo delphi. I would like to use the new one but i couldn't solve all the issues

windows defender:
rc3    1 danger  :'( Trojan:Win32/Detplock
rc2    0 danger

i just scanned using windows defender and no threat was detected.
i really don't know what to do about this. I stopped using the exe compression to avoid false positives, but yet this madness won't stop while these "security" softwares will consider HFS itself as a menace, "A Variant Of Win32/Server-Web.HFS"

it is possible.
Use the "out" parameter of "exec" command

the temp files you are talking about are because i don't  immediately overwrite the file, but create a temp file and then rename it.
It's a common technique to avoid totally losing a file.
The process probably fails at the moment it tries to rename to hfs.ini because was marked as read-only.
If nonetheless you want to stay like this but gets these leftovers, i can only suggest to add an "event script" each minute to delete all *.tmp

Write protecting the hfs.ini file was not effective

i have no idea of what happens if you set that file read-only, it's not a case that was considered

i cannot esclude that a restart could be necessary for the "hosts" to be effective while the software is running.

Leo just said but i need to stress out: to everyone,
this is a server software therefore people using it on the internet should stay updated for security fixes.
Of course you can opt for doing it manually.

guys, peace and love.
Danny is free to do what he wants.
Also I took no offense in his statements, I just made "technical" comments about them.

The problems that happened can be considered inacceptable by some, I understand that and I'm sorry and I apologize for the inconvenience to Danny and everyone else.

To be honest I expected to see more angry comments from more people. Also counting the number of daily "check for updates" requests I can tell you that it didn't decrease these days.
