focus group: double address bar?

i see many users are behind a router and don't understand the need for 2 different address, one internal and one external.

i imagine a double address bar, one for LAN and one for the Internet. the Internet bar initially shows a message because the external address is unknown. clicking on the message the external address is retrieved and the new URL is shown.


like:

Internal address [ http://192.168.etcetc ]
Internet address [ click to retrieve internet address  ]


the double bar could be shown only if HFS is behind a router.


opinions? suggestions?

This is a good idea,

Local Address: http://(127.0.0.1 or localhost):Port

Internal Network Address: http://(whatever my internal static network IP is):Port

External Network Address: http://(find whatever my external IP is):Port

I like it... but i think maybe a drop down would be better... so the user can hit the drop down and select which they want to view in the address bar, the internal network IP, external IP, or localhost... like a mini menu, with 'Retrieve and Show External Network IP', 'Show Internal Network IP', 'Show Local IP'

I think 2 address bars would be annoying. I am behind a router >_<.

sure, but it could be 2 bars by default, and one as an option...

Nice idea.. but i think "Internal" and "Internet" are a bit confusing cause they almost look the same

make it:

Internal / Local Address [ http://192.168.XXX.XXX ]
External / Internet Address [ Click to retrieve internet address ]

Or something like that, so that "newcomers" can easily see the difference.
