Beta / Re: Testing build #272

For the 3 of you having problems uploading ... are you uploading to a folder that you have write permissions to?  Had to revamp my system and I'm running HFS on non-Admin account.  Had to set real upload folder to read/write for everyone.

Yes it is the external address of your router
That is why the static address off of the router and forwarding the correct port to the right computer is important  ;D

router & port problems / Re: Regarding DynDns
« on: May 26, 2010, 06:08:32 PM »
Your dyndns domain just points to your ip-address, so to access your servers from internet there is no difference using dyndns or your ip.
You need to properly port forward your Router and that everything is routed correctly.  Make sure you set your computer/laptop to a STATIC IP address off of the router.  This is something I struggled with when I first started (including an FTP server).  On my D-Link routers, it is listed under DHCP and I add my laptop MAC address to a "static client list".  Then I port forward to that static IP address.

Standard ports (i.e. 80 for HTML and 21 for FTP) are blocked on the ISP end (want you to upgrade to business), so changing the port is mandatory.  I recommend a dynamic DNS with a webhop.  Then you do not have to add the port to the address, for those less techy like my parents.

Rejetto,
Two issues with this build (did not try on other builds):
  • Everything at default, a friend of mine tried to log in using Chrome.  Under his account, in the action section, only new folder and update list showed up.  I have no problems with IE 8 or FF3.6
  • hfs uploads crash when I switch users.  Friend was uploading a file last night.  Wife wanted to use computer so I switched users.  Download did NOT complete.  Note that under every account I have hfs in the startup.  If it is already running in another user account, it "errors" out sayings no available in that user account.  However, when I log into the server from my phone, the server is running ... and I have access to everything

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Start on boot up?
« on: April 29, 2010, 04:01:41 AM »
Rejetto,
Moved this topic to the general area:
I save all my settings to file.  Recently, I created accounts on my Vista Machine (32).  On my admin account, I checked the setting for HFS to startup with Windows.  Problem is, HFS does NOT start automatically when I log into my other users account.  As a mater of fact, when I start HFS in the users account, the setting for Autostart with windows is off.  The folder where HFS resides has been set for all computer users to have all settings (no restrictions)

Problem is, the "run when windows starts" puts a link in the startup folder.  Unless you are in an account this HFS in the startup, it will not run.  Is there a way of forcing HFS to run at windows start up even though a user account is not active?

are you saying that you have password protected files that got downloaded from a bot that's supposed to don't know it?
could you please provide the information you used to determine that? any log?
i need to see why you think it's a bot, why you think it doesn't know your password, etc.
I only have pictures open to my family. No password. I have another set of folders with personal items which is password protected only for me. Usually, I remote in and add that directory when I need it (ergo that directory is NOT always online). I was checking the logs and noticed an unknown IP address from Colorado (US). It looked like that address went through the restricted directory which has been off for 3 weeks. I'll see if I can find the log. I did a reboot resently and run a file cleaner at start up

Taint,
Is this one song at a time or can you do a playlist/albums?  Does it play through Safari or the iPod built into the phone?

Noticed a scan on my machine (just updated to version 260 a day before this happened which is why I posted here).  Probably a BOT from Google or what not.  I am concerned in that the files are behind a user name, but it appears that the BOT went through the directory.  I know HFS is not "industrial", but is this normal?  Is there a way of avoiding this in the future?

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: Server for Pictures, etc.

Thank you, I just dragged the folder in.

If I change the "index" file to another name (not "index.html), do I still need to mask it?

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Server for Pictures, etc.

Could not find in documentation did not find a direct item in the forum.
What I would like to do is use HFS to serve a picture gallery as a link.  I/wife use JAlbum to "pre-create" the pages, including it's own index file.  I want to create a folder, "Pictures" where I can host the gallery directly from my machine.  Is this possible?  Pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: what is the difference in permissions?
« on: August 17, 2009, 04:49:49 PM »
Maybe the coding should default with the checkmark on "anyone".  This would get rid of the redundancy.
Wondering why my post count is so low.  I know I have more than 10 postings ...

Still learning to use the software.  Thank you

Rejetto,
This is probably repetetive coding.  "If check marked, set lock icon".  Even though they eventually do the same thing, some people prefer to "set" to anyone (my preference).  This is a visual that tells me that I have set permissions.  Maybe you should add an icon of an "OPEN" lock for the anyone flag and or leave blank.  My opinion (I restate it is my opinion only) is to force users to choose the anyone flag.  It's a verification that you set a permission to your folder.

Thank you for the great software.  Still learning to play with it
