I've been using HFS for a long time, but I still have my concerns.  The fact that it's open source makes me feel a LOT safer.  My question is about the security.

At the current moment in time, are there any known security issues with logins and HFS?  If I set up a 'Real' folder and share it out with an account I've set up in HFS, is there any possibility of another person that does NOT know the login and password to somehow gain access to that shared resource?  I know it's petty, but I'd like to be able to share pictures with my family without leaving them open to the public and I think this can best be served using HFS.

Are these fears substantiated or should I be safe sharing out things like that?

there have been security problems that have been fixed.

Right on.  I've been using the latest stable version, but I have no problem changing to a beta.

Yeah, just to add to what Rejetto has said. Whenever a security issue has been found he has released a new build that addresses the issue as soon as he could. although there have only been a few issues anyway.
