Hello,

First i want to say i am happy i found such a easy and good programm. We are using HFS in our LAN and we are providing drawings to all workers. Actually its 840 directories and 9723 files, so it would be great is there is any possibilty to intrgrate a search system. I am thinking about a search field and button on the start page so it searches all files and directories for a special name. Or maybe somebody have another idea how to solve that.

Thanks in adavance

Hili

Currently HFS doesn't support a search feature.  However, it is in the to-do list.  Many of us use external search engines called from HFS.  For example, I have been using  Search Engine Builder Pro for many years.  It works very well.  Do a forum search or search google for more information.

Maverick, can you post a link to your file server where I (and others perhaps) can see a sample of search engine builder professional.  I would "aquire" it by "legal" means if it does the job.

Pretty awesome Maverick, I'll grab it, do you want to paste your code to make it easy or is it going to be all done through SBP

Kurt,

All configuration plus the indexing and building of the search engine is all done in the program.  It also includes a basic search html.  The only thing I added was the search page you saw at the site.  I wanted it to match the rest of my pages.

Maverick and or Mr.Me, are you guys using Pro or just basic, or can you use basic one time to generate a snapshot of the contents of your server and then get rid of it.

Also, do you have to update the database with SEBP each time you add new files and or/folders?
Thanks guys.

As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I use the Pro version.  As for using the basic version to generate a snapshot of the contents then get rid of it, yes that might be possible (never tried) however it wouldn't include any updates to your file system.

Well yes otherwise how would you build a updated search engine.  I only update the search engine when I know there are changes made to my file system.  No need to do it otherwise.  My preferred method is to do it during a maintenance routine.  It's fast and doesn't affect cpu when HFS is running.

Hi Maverick,

first thanks for the tip on the search system. I created my search engine already. Now i want to make a search folder as you did in HFS. But i don't know how you did it that it is opening the search page by clicking on the search folder. Maybe you can tell me how to do it. Thank you very much.

greetings

Hili

in the next beta of HFS there is a search feature.
maybe it is not the ultimate search system, but i guess it will be enough for many of you.
i don't know when the default template will support it, but i guess ToG or others will quickly make profit of it.
