Everything else / URGENT: If you are in Egypt now ...
« on: January 31, 2011, 11:51:38 AM »
...and still have (corporate) internet access, but behind a router or firewall:

you can run a (mobile) webserver with HFS to receive and send important info out of censored Egypt. (Twitter: #jan25)

Follow the instructions here: http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php/topic,9384.0.html

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / HFS & PageKite: Serving from everywhere

Hi,

long time no see, but i'm back again. Have to pick up the latest developments here ..

Does anyone have suggestions for a simple webserver to use on windows
together with pagekite?

I've been experimenting with Apache but I feel thats a bit too much
for simple use. Its hard to configure for non-techies.

I found this list of free webservers. Most of them seem to be
available on windows.

http://www.thefreecountry.com/webmaster/web-server-software.shtml

HFS looks interesting. Anyone tried that?

PageKite and HFS seems to be the ideal combination for win-users: very easy to use, and no firewall/router restrictions anymore.

What do you think? Could it give HFS an extra boost?

HTML & templates / Tip: Template Editor Tool/Helper

Just downloaded Opera 9.10 ...  :)

Open your HFS (or any other) webpage with Opera 9.10, open source, edit the source at your will, press "Apply", open the edited page again ... and see the difference!

Have fun!

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / HFS Wine *nix

Hi fellow linux user, i dont have linux installed at the moment, one of the reasons for that is HFS
Im just wondering, since you also like HFS and have linuz currently installed, if you could check if WINE is able to emulate HFS.

www.winehq.org, i bet you know this allready, but wine is an emulator for windows programs and games.

At the moment i see 3 options to get HFS running in *nix:
1. VMWare (not tried yet)
2. Wine (not tried yet)
3. recompile HFS sources (did some research, but feasibility appears very low or almost zero to me)
I'll try options 1 and 2 as soon as i've solved some minor issues with my hardware (i just started with Ubuntu Edgy 64 from scratch ... i need some learning).
When i'm succesful, i'll let you know ... be patient. But hints are welcome!

Everything else / Migrating to Ubuntu
« on: October 28, 2006, 12:59:00 PM »
Finally i decided to upgrade my operating system from XP Pro to Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.

It costs nothing, except some time ... but far less than XP & without f*ing up your hard drive.
Wanna try, too?
1. Download the iso-file (choose the desktop version for 386, Mac or AMD64) from one of the ubuntu mirrors. It's almost 700MB, so take your time.

2. Burn the iso-image to a cd of 700MB capacity. You need an iso-burner, don't just copy. Alex Feinman's does it fine! No you have a LiveCd, which allows you to boot up and run your operating system from your CDROM, your hard drive wil not be modified.

3. Boot your machine with the freshly burned CD (don't forget to change the boot sequence in your BIOS!), your hardware will be autodetected and press <Enter> to load the GUI. If it works, you can try all applications coming with the distro, for example switch on your network card, run firefox 2.0 ...

4. Did you like it and wanna see it with full speed, run the install icon and install it to some free space on your hard drive (took me about 15 minutes to finish). A partition manager (Gparted), which is self intuitive will preserve your old OS for dualbooting, except you choose to take over the full drive ...

5. After reboot you'll get a menu to choose for starting Ubuntu or your original OS
Edit: The GRUB bootloader is the thing i always missed with windows

6. Have fun, explore and start fine tuning! Speaking for myself i was really impressed. Did it already on two machines.

Edit:2006-11-10
Meanwhile on 64bit, no rocket sience, but rocket speed.

Question: Would it be possible to compile the HFS sources for Linux? Or do i have to lock up XP in a virtual machine to run HFS from there, i don't want to give it up HFS!

HTML & templates / Crazy idea
« on: September 04, 2006, 05:58:40 PM »
Just some thoughts on the following situation:

Imagine, I am running a HFS server. My friend(s) and me are travelling across the world and want to communicate at fixed times.
Phoning would be much to expensive, but internet acces would be free. Unfortunately, the internet acces is restricted to firewalled pc's, which allow only traffic through port 80/443 (standard/secure surfing).

We could upload and download (text)files to the HFS server but this would be too slow and inconvienient.
So, would it be possible to have a page on HFS with one window, which autorefreshes (GET) every n seconds and a second window on that page, on which the user can type some text and submit (POST) this line of text to the first mentioned window. After the autorefresh the posted txt would be visible in that window.
This would be a cheap and primitive chatbox based on GET/POST, which would be available even behind firewalled PCs as long as HFS (on http or https) is accessible from the internet on one location.

Would it be possible with the existing version of HFS through HTML (and javascript). My friends are all noobs and can/will not install additional software (internetcafe ...).

Who can help? Would it be feasible?

Maybe a character combination that triggers it?
Finally posted as txt attachment.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Diff Template (=alternative template) Proposal
« on: August 26, 2006, 07:02:38 AM »
Does anybody make use of the diff template function?
I'm starting to redesign some templates and want to use this functionality. Am i right, that when i want to apply a different template other than the hfs.tpl to certain folders, i have to enter a different code in the window which pops up when i select this folders. Is there then still interaction with the hfs.tpl code? I guess not.
If i am wrong, could somebody please explain this function (i searched the boards, but could not find the info). Thx!
Edit:
Meanwhile i got the picture: Code from the pop up window is applied and inherited to subdirectories. But...when i entered a complete template like "clean[EN].tpl from chionsas" it worked, except that the different style was not applied! Still the style from hfs.tpl was valid. Is this a bug?
Proposal:
Is it possible to implement, instead of copy/pasting code to the popup window, entering the file name for the alternative code, like hfs_jpg.tpl, hfs_clean.tpl, hfs_1 ... etc. These alternative tpl files would reside in the same directory as the default hfs.tpl and applied instead of hfs_default. This would increase usability a lot.

Links, which were created in the old board (before 2006-08-23) are obsolete nowand generate a "not found" message.
Eg:
http://www.rejetto.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3175    (old) should be changed to
 http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php?t=3175.0

Also entries in the WIKI, refering to the old entries, are obsolete, too.
(Just updated the link in "secure your server", but probably there are still some other old links)

When i'm logged in, i can see my e-mail adres in the icon fields next to my contributions. Is it visible for others, too?
If not, why should i mail to myself? BTW, in my profile, the e-mail is marked not to show.

Edit: I can't see the e-mail adress of other users, so it's probably only shown to the logged in user.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Proposal %diskfree%
« on: February 28, 2006, 01:52:29 PM »
The variable %diskfree% indicates the total free space of the disk.
I would like to see the total free disk space minus the "Minimum Disk Space" as defined in "Limits", because a total disk free without considering the applied limit doesn't make sense.
The proposed adjustment would indicate the real available space for an upload.

PS:
Testing uploads on a "full" disk (available: 5.6GB, Minimum: 5.7GB) didn't give an error message, but an endless wait.
(Browser:IE, can't test with Opera, because my working box has been "cleaned" :(  .)
Can somebody confirm?
