I've noticed that the bandwith in when downloading large files e.g. 700MB or something like that is very bad.... in a network (100mb LAN) the download rate is around 350Kbit/s for HFS and 4500-5000Kbit/s for FTP.. and im talking about the same file to the same directory????  Why is this.... and HFS takes between 70 -100 CPU???
I have a 2.5MHz P4 with 1Gb ram`

What could it be???
Any suggestions???

I can add to that - that on my system (Win98) I get only 1MB/Sec when doing a "transfer" on th same PC...
Actually - I don't see it as a problem, since in "real" life - you can usually get only about 15% of that speed on the internet (in futue upload) and much less in download (for example on my 1.5Mbps/96KBps ADSL connection... :(  )

Well it's very noticeable when u are using a internet connection of 10Mbs...
Thas's my dilemma.. why is is so slow? And how come HFS takes up so much processor time during a download?

well, i made some test.
i tested both HFS (1.6 and 1.5) and Filezilla (FTP).
sadly, the CPU is consumed by Windows itself.
you can see it by yourself using the task manager.
in facts, during my tests, the FTP server also brought the CPU to 90% and always an half of this was the System task.
i also tested using the ttcp util (by microsoft) to transfer ~100MB.
CPU usage reached 100%.

I'm not aware of a method to improve to solve this problem. Are you?

Moreover... Testing i noticed that Filezilla used to reach 6MB/s while HFS only 5MB/s.
This means speed can be improved, but this may require to change tcp library. just don't know.
