This is a HFS forum.  The problem is not with HFS.  I proved it above in my reply where I ran HFS as a service.

The problem is in your system somewhere.  If the HFS icon does not show up in your system tray, your system can't find it so it could be a path problem.

According to one of your screenshots above, you installed app2service to e:/Http_File_Server/hfs.exe and it started successfully.  Now all you have to do is make sure your system can find the hfs working directory on your drive e:\ and that should solve your problem.

I just tried it here.  Everything works perfectly.
1.  HFS vfs loads automatically at bootup.
2.  App2service and HFS show up in Windows Services and Task Manager.
3.  The HFS icon is in the system tray.  I can access the HFS gui like normal.
4.  No problem at all.

Try a different port like 80 to see if the problem goes away.

Sounds to me like you have something blocking access to app2service hfs and port 8888 on your computer system.

Check your firewall settings and make sure to allow access to hfs on port 8888 when using app2service.  Check other computer applications that run in the background on your system to make sure access isn't blocked to that port.

ahh... that makes sense.  The 'hits-total' in the hfs.ini must be just the global hits with individual file hits stored in the vfs.

My initial thoughts is that mp3's etc. can't play from port 443 which stunnel uses.

Edit:
Don't know why I said that above because I was wrong.  I know better.  Must have been thinking about something else at the time.   Anyway, I have stunnel setup here for at least 2 years and there is no problem streaming mp3's with it.  Just tested locally with and without stunnel (ssl) and everything works fine.

Are you trying to access your home pc from another computer (example a friend's) using your external IP address?  If not, you should be.  If you want a connection over the internet, your external IP address has to be used.  If you don't know what your external IP address is, you can get it here -> http://www.whatismyip.com/

Thank you so much for your help thus far. Hopefully someone else will chime in/have an opinion.

The very first thing I would do is disable both the firewall and antivirus software on the desktop computer to see if the problem disappears.  Have you done that?

Also, make sure that no other program or service is running in the background on the same port as HFS so there is no conflict.  Try a different port and make sure port forwarding is done correctly. 

You obviously have a configuration problem somewhere.  UDP isn't important.  Ensure TCP settings are properly configured.  To find out what is causing the problem it might be a good idea to disable as much as you can that starts at bootup. Reboot and try HFS.  If HFS runs fine, then you know it's one of the things you disabled that is causing the problem and now you have to find out what it is.  Enable one at a time (reboot etc.) until HFS fails again and you have found where the problem is for you to fix.

As far as I know all of that information is stored in hfs.ini.  If you notice a part of that ini is encrypted and that's where that info you are looking for might be hiding.  If that is the case you probably won't have access to it.  From time to time rejetto drops by and will respond if he has new information share.

Well I tried that and got the ini file also but it does not have any Hits values.....I need to know from where does HFS read the Hits values when showing on webpage...I need to read these values directly from my software ...no thru HFS

I just had a look at your site.  The only place 'hits' aren't shown are for folders.  For file hits 'are' shown.  If you load the default template you will see the hits for both files and folders.  When you tried to modify the default template to look like it looks like now you made a mistake somewhere which affected folder hits.  You also don't need comments for folders.

Look through your template at about lines 540-541.  You should see the following:

[+folder]
<td class='nosize'>folder<td>%item-modified%<td>%item-dl-count%

If you don't see those lines exactly as shown above, add them. 

I don't know what you mean when you say "I need to read these values directly from my software ...no thru HFS"   What is your software   If you are running a server like HFS where do you think those values would come from other than the server.

Don't include port in URL only affects URL building and should only be used with care.

The only port that isn't included in a url is port 80.  If you use HFS with any other port it is included as part of the url.  This is normal.  example xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.:12345

If a file is being download by a download manager/accelerator in multi-threaded mode, each thread adds to the 'Hits' stat...isnt there a way to properly increment this as 1 irrespective of the parts being downloaded !

Don't think so as every new part being downloaded is a new download connection to the server.  If you are allowing the use of download managers you might have to live with things like this.

Select a different port to portforward.  Port 81 is Unassigned and Removed on 2007-09-06 from Iana.org.

You did something wrong.  Go to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm to select your router then go to Http File Server-HFS and follow the instructions.

Hits are stored in the hfs.ini file.
