DNS touch update

HFS' dns updater only updates (I'm using dyndns.com) when it detects an IP change, right? But what about when touches? If my IP does not change for say  2 months, there is a danger that dyndns.com will delete my record. Their client has an option to force an update every x days (e.g. 25 days) so the account will not become stale and be deleted. Does HFS' updater have this?

HFS doesn't do that, but i don't think it is needed.
Why should they need you to update? They shold know if your address is used by people, because their dns records are queried. This should be enough for them to keep you alive.
Please, let me know if you find something telling the opposite.

No, this behavior is correct.  I've had my active DynDns.com hosts deleted before because of lack of updates.

If all of the hosts have not been modified within 30 days, the account will be considered inactive and will be removed from the system. You can prevent Dynamic DNS inactivity expirations by purchasing an Account Upgrade or by manually modifying the Dynamic DNS host every 28 days.

There are other references to this also. But relying on dns lookups is not a good way to refresh an account anyway because it is entirely possible for special purpose sites to sit idle for more than a month.

Furthermore, a dns lookup does not mean the ip is still valid. Maybe the site is no longer up but Google searches or whatever keep dyndns busy with dns lookups to an ip that really is no longer valid. Thus dyndns' requirement for a touch every 28 to 35 days.

Yes, this forced update is in every DynDNS updater.

So, i may just put a fixed (non optional) forced update every 15 days.
Shouldn't this value fit for every service, we can always lower it to 10 days.

Options should be only when they are needed.

15 days is too short for DynDNS.

We also allow updates every 28 days to maintain activity, as Dynamic DNS hosts expire if they are not updated within a 35-day period.
