Title: Customizing ToG
Post by: parade on November 07, 2007, 09:49:09 AM
Hello That_Stevens_Guy,

I am a newbe and I am experimenting with HFS and ToG now for some days. I like the ToG-template very much and it suits me mostly. Anyway I want to make some small changes (dropping some items, changing some names and icons, language changes).

As I understand you want me to keep your logo and link in the template which of course I do respect.
But if I do this small customizing I get a template that looks al little bit different from your original.
Do you see any problem in it that a customized ToG shows your origin (logo and link) but is not quite your original version?

Greetings

If its changed so much that the work reflects a lot of your own, you don't have to put the logo, just put in the footer a reference to provide credit for our work. Something with a link to our homepage http://www.rawr-design.com/tog/ and reference of author. Something like this... maybe.

Based on template Thunderchicken of Glory (http://www.rawr-designs.com/tog/) by RAWR Designs (http://www.rawr-designs.com/). Some Rights Reserved (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/).

It is a "Template" we provide it for people to use and deviate, we just want some credit for our time and effort. Its not too much to ask.

I don't think that it will ever reflect so much of my own - my knowledge in code (at least at the moment) is far too low. My concern was only how much changes you admit without any hints of mine in the template, that your template is not completely the original.

My template will always be the original, even Giant Eagles Terayon still has a reference to Lithosphere who originally designed that as a phpBB theme, but looking at it now you wouldn't even know thats where it came from with so many changes. Crediting intellectual property  is important, but you may remove the logo if you need. We only ask that you put us in the disclaimer in some way like I explained before. Before you go editing it, you may want to wait for 3.0.0 its a lot better :)

There ist constant developement in the templates and I think there will be in the future.
As I like to customize and localize a little bit:
Has onyone any hints how to do it best without having to change manually the code everytime there is a new version or new build?

Make a note of the changes you make? So you can put them back into the new build? The general code layout doesn't change unless there is major additions.
