I have found the problem.
I used this version of hfs.exe in an empty folder. When I start it, the default html template that is used is not the same as the default html template that apears when I press the default button.
That is why i could not see the links, the login button, and the other things.

the template is also saved in the registry (if you don't specify to save options on file)

you had the template saved in the registry, that's it

i guess i should put a warning on the template window, about not be using the default one

I tried it once more, but it works fine. No problem.

One other thing:

After loggin in, can there be a logout button? The sessoin will remain open if you have a browser open. I think there should be a logout button as well.  ;)

Title: Minor bug in new URL
Post by: Rafi on December 18, 2003, 05:36:13 PM
At last.... :)   I like the new URL feature (which I suggested  long time ago... ;) ).
Now  HFS to a REAL VIRTUAL-GLOBAL File System  :^^:

One problem and two  suggestions:
A* in the URL tooltip - you cannot see the comment ...
B* suggestions:
1. Support "hits" count on URL  links (same as in files) in HFS side and on the other end
2. Add hits count to folders - that will be the sum of all it's tree-hits (only if it will not take time to calculate and slow everything down...)
3. and - this is a tricky one: support two typesqicons of URLs - one is for address-only type (i.e. - xxx.yyy.zzz or .../<page link>)   and the other files-type (<address>/<file_name>).
The file-type will have also the "run" option available on the menu ' and can have a different icon - like the globe+the file type icon in it.

OK, there are 3 and not 2 suggestions, so you can stop the implementation after #2 ... ;)

Again, nice work!

i wish i could but...
Quote from: "RFC 2616 on HTTP 1.1"
15.6 Authentication Credentials and Idle Clients

Existing HTTP clients and user agents typically retain authentication information indefinitely. HTTP/1.1. does not provide a method for a server to direct clients to discard these cached credentials. This is a significant defect that requires further extensions to HTTP. Circumstances under which credential caching can interfere with the application's security model include but are not limited to:

- Clients which have been idle for an extended period following which the server might wish to cause the client to reprompt the user for credentials.

- Applications which include a session termination indication (such as a `logout' or `commit' button on a page) after which the server side of the application `knows' that there is no further reason for the client to retain the credentials.

This is currently under separate study. There are a number of work-arounds to parts of this problem, and we encourage the use of password protection in screen savers, idle time-outs, and other methods which mitigate the security problems inherent in this problem. In particular, user agents which cache credentials are encouraged to provide a readily accessible mechanism for discarding cached credentials under user control.

hmm, this is impossibile unless i use a redirection system. that is, who click on a link will make a request to HFS that will then redirect it to the real address. this 1. slowdownss user browsing 2. hides the real address    ...do you want it?

Quote
2. Add hits count to folders - that will be the sum of all it's tree-hits (only if it will not take time to calculate and slow everything down...)
i did it, but is is the count of hits to the folder, not the recursive sum.

i understand the need for 2 icons, but to run a link just use the browse command
so, is your need to change the icon?

Got it.

Some notes:
1. If you can mark/show  1.6xxx versions as RCx it can help

2. hits on folders: I was amazed to see that actually - they ARE counting the clicks on files inside them ...  :D  did you mean to do that ?  It IS good!
They also ADD to the hit count clicks on the folders themselves... well, not too bad  ;)

3. New ICONs implementation - look nice (allthough I meant it differently) :
   a. icons list - has many many duplicated icons. (on my VFS files)
   b. new assigned icons are NOT passed to the other side
   c. general thing:  passing of the icons is very slow. may be you can consider puting an option to disable passing of icons. better yet - give a control to the remote client to do it.

What I meant was:
that somehow you can "treat" URL links as regular files (detect the file type at the end of the URL string) and automatically use this file extention icon but show  near it a special icon/symbol  showing that it is actually remotely located link.
Just got an idea on another (better?) way to do it - do not change the icon at all, just underline the file/link name + bold font or blue color . Same thing - at the remote end.

4. GETRIGHT:
a. check again hfs with it. Looks like the "new" link-files might be "confusing" it... also - try protect the root point and see it's effect
b.  files inside folders - it seems not to show them as files but as sub-folders...

5. edit: deleted ...

Nice work!

2. it does not work that way, i just tested it.
however i introduce now a new symbol %item-dl-rcount%' that will do what you are asking.
it will count only hits for files.

3a. it may be caused by the fact that Windows actually stores different icons with same look. now i added a byte-byte comparison. i hope this check won't slow down thing. however it is done only on file addition.

3b. fixed

3c. the option is already there: use system icons

3d. i am using the shGetFileInfo() winapi call to retrieve file icon. it seems to work only with existing local files, so i can't retrieve remote file icon.

4a. i don't have getright installed ATM, could you be more specific so that i can fix the bug without installing it?

4b. getright does not know what is a file or folder, it just has links <a>. it will show a file icon if the link has a final extension, a folder icon if it has none.

...just uploaded rc1

I just downloaded the latest HFS that says RC1 but it isn't working.  I am able to get the first page up but then cannot login or browse any unprotected folders.  IE just sits and tries to open the page but never does.

I opened a previous RC1 that I downloaded and it works fine.  I think something is wrong twith the last RC1 that was posted.

A small bug (in rc2):
Press F5 to refresh the view in the browser - and you'll see the DL count & hits count in the tray icon (& tool tip) increasing with # of files ? folders ? links ?

Edit (23-Dec)
A big bug :
a few popups "out of system resources" after about 15 min.,  with only a few F5 and most of the time - Idle. (Win 98).

After that - a blue screan!!! and thats it - only hard reset helped!  :(

So, what WAS actually modified/fixed  ?

Edit (21:30) :

@ rejetto -
Purple colored folder icons in rc3 ?????????????? is this a special version for Christmas ? What happened to the yellow ones?  :D

I mean in the HFS SW/tree , not the client.

edit :(22:00)
few things:
- log side is being refreshed very havily - loading the HFS (actually - it should not refresh at all - since it is printing out-of view (BTW - I would do it in reverse order - last at the top)
- The file view - in the client is all massed up! subfolders are being duplicated twice ,  files are being "duplicated " to folders above them etc.

May be - wait after the holidays, rest a bit, and test is some more  ... :?

Edit PS (23:00):
After about 40 min - still "out of system resources" popup dialog is showing up  :(

Look at these two screen shots, from both 1.6rc3 & rc1 . It might help.

 :?

Edit (1) :
I also get "list index out of bound" when downloading.  But as I remember this used to be also in previous versions.

I'll also try reproduce the "out of resources " and let you know. I have a hunch this has to do with running Kazaa 2.6 at the same time .

Edit (2): (Win98)
I checked with "taskinfo" and noticed that evrey time you do something in IE client (like F5) "the free GDI resources" - drops ,  and eventually reachs a near-zero value and freeze the system.  When you use Kazaa - it simply starts at a lower value and get to zero faster...  My guess is - it has to do with the log or the icons.
Win 98 is known for it's lousy mem management... so maybe you are not freeing somthing...

well, the leak has been introduced with the new GIF library.
it was not made by me, so it is not trivial to fix.
anyhow, i introduced a cache system that reducing the leak may actually remove the problem.
i just uploaded rc4, please give it a test.

i was not able to understand anything about those purple icons. i just get yellow ones. let me know if this problem persists.

...the last releases are not exactly rc, i was wrong at first labeling, and the error propagated through.
we should be now near the stable version.

rc4:
At first glance - the leak problem looks much better (= not effecting the resources).

About the purple - it is just ODD, not very important (it was not in your first 1.6 release...)

But - the screenshots were to show two more problems, so look closer:
1. The file/links structure is NOT correct in some cases - look under "protected" sub-folder and see the difference : two other "files"  are shown, and are realy from the sub-folder below it ("faq.html" & index.html")
2. one other strange (but funny...) thing - in the "rc0" & rc4 look at the icon of the link of "hfs.exe"! somehow - you (?) "managed" to show the zip type file-icon for it ...  ;) ...

1. are you sure you did not create real (autoupdated) folders? warning: adding a folder the question has changed, and the yes/no answer is swapped. Old .VFS files may be incompatible, thus if you have a problem, try recreating your VFS before.

2. i was not able to reproduce. are you sure you did not set a customized icon for it? try clicking on default icon and see if it changes.

in the while i fixed (to be released) this bug
- problems with files with corrupted timestamp

I'm not a Delphi programmer myself but I've done some research and it looks like you have to start a new "service project", I think this would take a lot of work because you would need to rewrite some parts of code etc. (cf. http://oldlook.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Programming_Languages/Delphi/Q_20781244.html#9639834)

If you want so, I can make an installer for you with InnoSetup (free) wich will make sure that will make the application start every time you (or any user) logs in. This is not the same as a system service of course but it's a method of approach;) Just let me know.

I think that to get a "good" quality software as service, it has to be splitted up: GUI/Engine.
This would require a large amount of work, and i'm not interested in this feature.
That's why I don't plan to work on it.

well, browsing through the source i found a fullEncode variable that forces encoding, no matter for options.
this variable was used on page generator.
i just don't remember why i introduced it. :(
i will try to disable it and see what happens. (in next 1.6 test release)

have you tested it out yet?

I so far got 3 problems while I am running HFS 1.6 RC6 on WINXP SP1.

1.  The program crashed twice while multiple users were downloading multiple files at the same time.

2 and 3 are in the screen shot below.  They did not crash the program but came up with the warning prompt and occured again when multiple users were downloading multiple files at the same time.

I still have a question regarding "NEW LINK"!  When I create a NEW website address link (ex: http://www.google.com) and save it in the tree, is this link supposed to show up in server main page?  Because if it doesnt then whats the purpose of adding a web link that doesnt show up on your page?  look at the screen shot below to see what I mean!

It is OK here (Win98) .  Strange, but I cannot see the HFS version either on your screen  8O

Maybe try running HFS in a new clean directory ...

Something strange:
I tried to "rename" a link name  and make it the same as the http:... address, and could not do it...  8O
It "refused" to rename the link, and just returned the previous text-name...

edit:
BTW - how about adding a checkbox inside the new-link-set-URL dialog that when checked - it will automatically-name the link - as the URL text ?

Title: HFS Resume Bug 1.6 rc8
Post by: Mr. Anon on January 13, 2004, 12:39:39 AM
There's a problem in HFS 1.6 rc8 where HFS would ignore the resume request and sends from the beginning of the file.
Here's an example:
I set up a text file called "Testing.txt" in HFS (8 bytes) with the contents:
00001111
and with this bug:

*** GET REQUEST ***
GET /Testing.txt HTTP/1.1
Host: 127.0.0.1
Accept: */*
Range: bytes=4-
Pragma: no-cache
Cache-Control: no-cache
Connection: close
*******************

*** RESPONSE ***
HTTP/1.1 206 Partial Content
Content-type: text/plain
Content-range: bytes 4-7/8
Content-length: 4
Server: HFS 1.6 rc8
Content-Disposition: attachment;  filename="Testing.txt"

0000
****************

As you see from the example above, HFS doesn't send the 1's but instead send from the beginning of the file, resulting a corrupted file on resume.
If the download isn't interrupted in between, the download would work just fine.

HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

403 - You are not allowed to access this file
I am correct that the ban HTML couldn't be changed right? (1.6rc8)
Idea: I was thinking about a feature which will let people see why they are banned in the HTTP headers. For example:
Quote
HTTP/1.1 403 Banned (Leeching)
Content-type: text/html

You have been banned from the server because of the reason: (Leeching)

It would be nice if this feature is togglable and that the HTML in the ban is customizable as well as the HTML headers! ;) Also if this option were to be added into newer version of HFS, the variable %banreason% or etc should be added too. :P

Checking rc9:
1. bug with download tooltip - seems to be fixed
2. Minor problem - trying to relocate (move) a file on VFS tree by drag and drop - seems to fail in two cases:
    a. you try to "put" it among other files-list
    b. Edit: canceld. (See item below)
it is OK if you drag it over any other folder
3. another problem: even if you do not restrict the # of multiple connections from the same address it does not succeed to execute "multiple segmeted downloads" by get right.
Edit: On second thought - may be this is a good thing, restricting a user to a single download per file. Just check that it does not happend with -multi-users-resumed-downloads for a file ...

OK, rejetto. I tried restoring the Default Template for RC9. The ban section shows and it does show the ban reason when telneting, but the thing is that a lot of users has "Show Friendly HTTP Messages" on in Internet Explorer and most download manager doesn't show HTML contents automatically. So I am requesting that a feature to be added to next version of HFS, where the ban reason is shown in the HTTP headers as well. For example:
Quote
HTTP/1.1 403 Banned (Leeching)
Content-type: text/html

You have been banned from the server because of the reason: (Leeching)

One more thing that I have noticed in RC9, the "Users" feature works without a password. For example, when I made a user and put a password in HFS and protected some contents with user access. The Login button works but people could login without knowing the password at ALL! They just input the username & could login w/o a problem! :( Also the Login button's realm aren't customizable at this moment?

No problem with 2b, Rafi. Haven't checked the others yet.

Thanks rejetto for your hard work!

OK, I got it wrong. The problem description is this:

2.b When you try to drag any file to any place - it shows the "disable sign" when you are not phisically locate the mouse on the text of the any folder name. I mean - when you put you the mouse on the right side of the folder name, and still the folder name is highlighted/selected - you cannot move the files into it.
On the root I had it was always like that because the  "\"  is very short ... :-)

Here's what HFS 1.6 rc10 returned when I tried the login procedures: (using customized realm) (So far it works! ;))

Quote
GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: 127.0.0.1
Accept: */*
Connection: close

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
Content-type: text/html
WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="Customized Realm"

Quote
GET /~login HTTP/1.1
Host: 127.0.0.1
Accept: */*
Connection: close

HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized
Content-type: text/html
WWW-Authenticate: Basic realm="Customized Login Realm"

@Rafi, the login button is for "Users Login". When you setup a user account in HFS, you could protect items so that those items are shown/accessed only when those users are logged in.

I think that may be there is a misunderstanding among some users.
They might be expecting the realm to be displayed when the login-botton  is pressed , and not when the protected folder is pressed ?!
So if they want to - you may add a customised realm for htis general dialog/ I think it is not needed...

Post by: VIP on January 16, 2004, 01:22:10 AM
wow.. 1.6 is looking like it will have some awesome features.
Right now, I found something that would be a very simple way of allowing me to make a mIRC script for HFS.

The script would modify a text file that the HFS uses to allow access by IP address.

The premise would be simple:

Someone wants to download a file from the HFS host, so they send a command... my script would do all the neccesary information handling within mIRC, and add their IP address to the access .txt that HFS checks upon connection. The mIRC script would then delete the IP address after a specified time amount (allowing them to start the download) then would remove the IP from the .txt file that HFS uses. The user would be downloading the file, and without their IP in the .txt file, they could not start another download. The mIRC script would handle how many times they could connect to the HFS per day, and even monitor traffic to a certain IP, and limit amounts of data to be used. Even add waiting lines for people to queue up.

I would love to see this feature built into HFS, as I am a mIRC scripter, and know many who could make use of this would be happy to see a mIRC script out there.

The only thing that I need incorporated into HFS is a way to enable a .txt file check that allows IPs in there to have access to a certain account type (which are already imbedded into HFS). If enabled, it would check the IP accessing and compare it to the .txt, and if the IP is in the .txt, it would grant them the extra priveleges.

I would do all the mIRC scripting and featured, and would be more than happy to give you the script, and provide technical support for it.

it is already in the to-do list, as you can see
i think a good solution would be to have an ip filter for accounts, then you would just tell HFS what IPs are good for the account X

in rc10 I tried trag&drop again and it seem to me that you need to change it like I mentioned last time(to be like in explorer):
* delete the new tooltip ("drag your files") that you show when the mouse is not on texts (it is not standard)
* whenever a file/link is highlighted in blue - you should be able to drop it (if not in the same place/folder/level) nomatter where the mouse is

now - when the mouse is above any white area (not over text) drops are disabled

is there anyway to limit IPs from downloading 2 files ata time...  My concern is when people use download managers like DAP or getright and it takes up 30 connections to download multiple files.

What I mean is there using a download mgr which starts 30 seperate downloads at the same time.

Any way of limiting amount of connections a user can download at a time beofre starting the next download?

besides the use of a modifyable live user/pass or allow ip for mirc, with the incorporation of cgi bins would allow the creation of download systems like what you find on www.fileplanet.com , incorporation of waiting lines to prevent too much bandwidth splitting, daily bandwidth limits, download stats, and probably some more that I cant think about. The cgi and modifyable user/pass and ip allow would allow users to create alot of third party plugins to further extend possible features beyond what you create.

I'm running rc10

The invert-ban-logic flag doesn't seem to work consistently

If I put an IP in the ban list,
and invert the ban logic to permit that IP
then save the configuration,

when i start the program again
sometimes I find my IP is banned
if I click the browse button

what seems to be happening
is that when the program first starts
the invert-ban-logic flag is not always set properly
(the ini file is ok ... invert-ban-logic=yes)

it will usually work properly
if I open then close the ban config window

I can put my IP in the (un)banned list
what usually happens then is
when i first start the program, my IP is banned
if I open/close the ban config window, my IP is unbanned
(for my router address and my dynamic internet address)

JO: i was able to do this:
+ unicode encoding for URLs

but there could be further problems, caused by the files loading and by the VFS graphic element. in case you should report me detailed information about these problems if you want to see them fixed.
i would also appreciate a comment if all goes right, because it is impossible to test it for me.

Ok, I tested rc11, and havent found any stability problems so far. Netscape 7.1 now understands mime types properly, a single file can be uploaded to multiple users at once, and the new logs are awesome. The only problem I noticed was that in the live logs, there was no newline identifier sent when logging. Everything runs together. But with the new live logs, scripting for mIRC, and in the future, CGI will be very easy.

Still the major thing that is keeping this software from hitting my #1 util spot is that there is no way to externally make downloads unique to a particular person/IP. When you serv over 90 GiB of files like I do, you often come across problems over users overbounding their user accounts, and downloading more than you want them to. It is impossible at the moment to automate temporary user accounts, and manage wether they have access to a single externally predefined file, or all of the files. Going through the files one by one, and creating a unique username/pass is more than tedious, and it is impossible to automate the process externally, because I cant; figure out the crc, or whatever check is enstated in the .vfs, so I cant automatically edit the .vfs enabling a specific file, then run hfs, so the user can download that single file. I cant make use of the inverse ban list because once they have access, they can download any number of files they want. I cant externally create/delete user accounts, which really wouldn't matter too much because they would still have access to any file they want before they started downloading it. I can use the logs to determine wether they are downloading a file, and then change the password for the account if there was a way to alter passwords, or accounts, but I still wouldn't be completely satisfied because they could download any file they wanted.

I would like to see either a built in queue system, which is fully customizable on how many people can be queued for download, how many files can a single person queue, how many files can be downloaded in a specified amount of time (mins/hours/days/weeks), how much b/kb/mb a person can use in a specified amount of time(mins/hours/days/weeks). OR the flexibility to create external programs which can manipulate settings from the use of the logs. These kinds of abilities would allow users to take an unpresidented level of control over a public style file server. If the path of flexibility allowing external applications to control these things, most likely a bunch of third party mods would end up appearing.

With that expansion, this utility would no doubt take my #1 favorite spot on my list. I guess I didn't really make that too obvious in my last posts concerning these specific issues.

it works great to me
what's the problem?

however, the change is that the encoding in the HTML is now Unicode instead of ANSI. that is, if you use chinese symbols, those should be correctly shown to european users too, because Unicode does not depend of codepages.

the URL copied in clipboard is still ANSI.

well it should be like this below without URL Encode

http://127.0.0.1/¤¤¤å¦r¤å¥ó¦WºÙ.jpg

after URL encode it should be like this below

http://127.0.0.1/%A4%A4%A4%E5%A6r%A4%E5%A5%F3%A6W%BA%D9.jpg

but it actully show this in the new RC11

http://127.0.0.1/rW.jpg

which & will make the link just to http://127.0.0.1/& instead and get a no page found

then the download page should be in Unicode too

Title: 1.6 comin...
Post by: rejetto on February 05, 2004, 06:19:27 AM
Unicode should be used whenever you have a non-ascii filename.
If you have non-ascii filename, you have 2 options
1) use ANSI: only people with your same codepage will see files correctly (mostly people in your country)
2) use UNICODE: anyone who supports unicode will see files correctly, anywhere in the world

that is: unicode is good.
but not everybody supports unicode yet.

the unicode characters in HTML starts with the & symbol and ends with ;
if you see that shit, perhaps your system or font do not support unicode.
your browser should not stop at the & symbol.
what Windows are you using?
what browser?
are you using the default template?

if i copy the URL from IE or Opera, this is what i get
Quote
http://koma/¤¤¤å¦r¤å¥ó¦WºÙ.jpg
that's right

i fear i will have to put Unicode as an option.

can someone report his experience with new unicode urls ?

Thanks for your reply Rafi, but I have selected this already and lost the username/passwords each time hfs was closed.

Now after reboot and close hfs a few times the usernames/passwords are saved. So its working fine now. I chose save to registry also..maybe this caused the delay in saving the input?

Ok, I just installed a new drive on my computer. This seems to be giving HFS1.6 rc11 some problems with read access errors. Access violation at address 004D8925 in module 'hfs.exe'. Read or address 0000033C.

It seems to come up after every restart of hfs after creation of a virtual file system for my new D:\
After closing all the read access errors that show up, hfs will load with the proper file system, and fully operational.

using rc11 on xp pro

when a person is downloading a file
you can see how much time is left

it displays as 12:25:17 AM, for example

rc12
unicode is optional, and disabled by default
fixed the "time left" problem

if you get many error dialogs, it is likely the bug is in timerEvent().
are you including the whole drive in the VFS as a real-foder?

Post by: anomaly2k_VIP on February 09, 2004, 10:52:07 PM
I am only using a file two directories down in the new d:\ drive, so no... I am not serving my whole drive. The errors that repeatedly pop up are all the same, so it is some sort of perpetual loop, since they will not stop untill I close them all down. Once they are all closed, hfs opens normally.

but when the Unicode Option is on
it show something like this
http://192.168.1.101/rW.jpg
exactly like this all ""
which is of course not right at all

using rc14 in xp pro

i can drag the height of the "info about connections" window
but when i start the program again
it doesn't remember the position

it seems to remember the width of the log window
but not the height of the connections window

there is an entry in the hfs.ini file:
connections-height=56

i can edit the number but it doesn't seem to make any difference
to the size of any window
it always starts with the window the same height
and the next time the configuration is saved
the number is 56 again

maybe this is the way it is supposed to work?

---

the disconnect idle connections feature doesn't remember
the number of seconds you configure either

this feature works well with wget
wget will normally not realize the download has finished
until the server disconnects
you can manually kick the idle wget connection after it has finished downloading
or use this automatic disconnect feature
and wget will realize the download has finished and is happy

I wanted to ask if you can make the following options default when you first run the hfs.exe for the first time as a new user. The reason being that it would make things easier for the first time user.

Start/Exit -
- Reload on startup VFS file Previously open

- Auto-save Vfs on exit.
Maybe make it Auto save the first file to "Vfs1.vfs", that way the new user will not have to worry about saving or stuff like that the first time they use this program. Saving that file should be saved to the default directory that Vfs.exe is located.

- Save option to file.
This will prevent a newbi from trying to write to the registry if your running hfs.exe from another machine. That way if a person uses the program in their home, then they can use the write to registry option. Basically for the not so new user.

This would make the experience using hfs simpler and more enjoyable. This is from the point of view of a new user. Im just thinking of the others that might try this prgram for the first time. Hope you take these into consideration when you have time.

Nice ideas! I especially like the Save to file idea on default. This keeps the computer registry "clean" by default, and deleting the whole HFS folder deletes the whole program. Which is what most people want.

anybody noticed a bug that when going 4 or more directories deep that you can't use the Up link anymore - results in a 404? using the browser back button to go to level 3 or up and then use the UP link it works fine
btw, using IE6 and real folders with user access enabled on them if it matters

is there any option for the vfs to re-read it's physical data - I mean if I add some stuff to the folders and the VFS does not show them - how do I refresh them?

lastly :) any news on when version 2 with upload is planned?

Any reason why a new drive letter isn't showing up in HFS.

I add 3 new drive letters, 2 being local drives and 1 being a network mapped drive.  One odf teh local drives (C:) is shoing up but the other 2 are not.  I i type in teh address of the drives in the address bar, i get the content.

is there any option for the vfs to re-read it's physical data - I mean if I add some stuff to the folders and the VFS does not show them - how do I refresh them?
Good idea! may be add support for F5 (refresh) and may be an extra option to auto-do this every XXX seconds ?

Yeah I know, however sometimes you'd want the VFS functionality and I did not find a way to refresh the data (file list, folder list, sizes etc) in the vfs except by deleting and re-adding it
real folders work fine but some right click option to re-read the VFS would be great

keep up the good work rejetto

If I remember correctly, rejetto, you identified real  folders by the "purple" color and virtual - yellow (which I thing should be visa-versa...  ;)  )
1. I suggest to do the same for the symbol of a whole drive.
2. Can you double check - if they are not created wrong ? all subfolders are not created if "real" is selected, is it right ?

Wow! Favicon works! just add new MIME in hfs.ini (by hands in Notepad)! super good! i love HFS!  :D
Why MIME don't changes over Menu  :?:
Title: 1.6 comin...
Post by: Anonymous on March 16, 2004, 11:21:22 PM
all i have to do is add the favicon.ico file to the root of the vfs

Firefox browser shows favicons by default
it asks hfs for the ico and hfs sends it

from my hfs log:
Requested GET /favicon.ico
Fully downloaded
Served 3638 bytes

Firefox shows the favicon in the address bar and the window tab

---

another tip:

i save the hfs configuration to the hfs.ini file
i can have 2 or more versions of hfs in different folders
each with it's own configuration
so if i can have a different virtual file system for each one

i can setup one version with no virtual file system
if you put a shortcut to that version in your SendTo folder
you can right-click a file or folder and send it to hfs
and hfs will startup with that file or folder ready to be shared

web-interface and thumbnails are already in to-do

i don't know why drives were not working
i rebuilt HFS and now they work, i don't remember what i changed in the source

Quote from: "326"
Does the URL encode in Unicode or UTF-8?
Unicode is used for URLs in HTML, while browsing.
UTF-8 is an encoding for unicode.
Unicode is a characters table. It has nothing to do with bytes.
UTF-8 is a specific code, to write unicode in bytes.
Unicode can be written in several ways, but the "table" is always the same.
HTML has its own way to write unicode, different by common ones (UTF-8, UTF-16, etc).
You can find how it does in any HTML reference.
this is what i know, but i may be wrong

what?

Quote from: "Anonymous"
you can right-click a file or folder and send it to hfs

but you can do it with the "send to" also

I think it might work for some browser, but I think that others browsers might fail to phrase favicon.ico correctly if HFS sends the file as an attachment instead of sending it directly.

This gives me an idea - add "re-set all to defaults" to one of the menus - to return to your install defaults (with a big warning ...  ;)  ).
I must say, that personally - I never use an option like that, but maybe for special upgrade cases...

neoj, another attempt to fix that bug is in rc23.
i also changed the code handling the quit, because i noticed it was preventing the system from shutting down.
and introduced an option "log on video" so you can disable it.
it is useful when you have a big log and want it only on file, because it eats your memory.
the log can grow big because it is detailed or because HFS stays open for days.

as you may see, the test version of HFS is much bigger.
this is because the file is uncompressed.
the compression (UPX) makes the debug-log to not work.
so i have to ZIP it...

Rejetto, may be our problem in my VFS settings?..  :(
Title: 1.6 comin...
Post by: NeoJ on April 06, 2004, 05:05:29 PM
yes, Rejetto.. i find the problem in this:

example my VFS :
MAIN/PICTURES/ - virtual folders
/NATURE - real folder
full path = MAIN/PICTURES/NATURE/
then my NATURE directory haves subdirectories:
IMAGE
THUMBNAILS
etc
& haves files:
index.html
index2.html
index3.html

when i add filter for NATURE folder:
folder filter = not
files filter = index.html

then i see in my Internet Browser:
MAIN/PICTURES/NATURE/index.html    -  only

then i click on index.html and load my web gallery with all thumbnails and menus.. good.. but..

in this moment Access Violation appears........

but IF i don't add filters on NATURE i can see all files and folder in NATURE.. it's no good.. but.. :)

IF i don't add filters on NATURE then Access Violation not appears..

it i test today.. what can do?..  ;)

is it on real folders? (red ones)
real folders does not have a counter for files in them.
it is a feature that's already in to-do list.

I have tried it both on Windows 2000 and XP.

I open up my network places through explorer and drag a shared folder (not a mapped drive) from another computer on the network into HFS.  I have tried to set it to be virtual and to be real and it shows in HFS fine.

When I open the page, the share shows up but when I click on the link is shows another folder below with the folder name again.  If I click on that link, nothing happens.

Suicide, I understand that it might work perfect for you but there is still an issue for some of us.  Whether you think my issue is stupid, I don't.

neoj, already replied. there's another thing you could do. instead of setting a filter for every folder, just set it for the up-level folder. it is recursive now.

gobble, sorry but shared folders work perfectly to me. i asked a friend to test it, and all went ok. i fear i don't have enough information to solve your problem.

I tried running rc 26b. System icons were "gone" (on the HFS server VFS pane). returning to rc25 did not restore them... (Win98) 8O  :?:

Edit (11.4):
It happens ONLY when loading (manual or auto) a .vfs configuration file. If you manually drag a new file - it "comes" with the correct icon.

BTW - I think you show remove the "drag files here" tooltip, or at least make  a longer time-out for it (to apear only when the mouse "rests" )

another small bug -
- put in a file with a long name
- make sure the name is longer then the width of the VFS pane (partly hidden)
- close HFS
- open HFS

the VFS pane is being scrolled to the right and not aligned to the left

scroll: i don't know how to fix it. i tried using the delphi scrollBy() method and sendingMessage() but nothing seems to work.

icons: i don't know why, i had no problems, but keep in mind that compatibility with older VFS files is not guaranteed.

tip: just introduced a new option for you to disable them. i don't want to set an higher timeout because it would be higher also for other tips.

in rc27 there is also auto-scroll up/down of the tree, when the mouse is near the border.

i believe the time has come to release it as stable and go on with new features.

I know, that's why I ran from a new directory, & created a new vfs. Well may be just Win98 problems. Just doublecheck it. it is ONLY when re-reading/loading from a VFS file, not when you drag a file to it. strange...

I tried to create a new VFS file and was able to get a little further.

After creating the new VFS file I added a share as virtual and one as real.
The share that was added was the first share and not any folders within the share.  The virtual share works but it still shows the share name first

ie.  I have a computer named Tiger and I shared my C: drive  as C and my D: drive as D

I add the C drive  as a real folder and the D drive as a virtual.

In both cases I see the share listed in HFS.  If I click on C (real), I should see the folders under C but what I get is another folder "C".  If I click on the second C nothing happens.  If I click on the D (virtual), I get another folder for D and if I click on that I get the folders under it.

I am also able to share a folder under C as a real folder and that works.

Hope this provided you with more information.

Here is link that you check to see the differences

Why not get free Kerio firewall V2.1.5  and just put it on your PC +  change port 80 to something else .
You can get it from here as well:
http://www.freeline.ws/k.phtml?page=2

Edit:
Or you can use the banned IP list for all IPs *.*.*.*  + unban only those you permit (actually like a private firewall ...)
