Player should play instantly

I have some MP4 video files on my root and as I wanted to test it, I noticed that the player has to have 100% of the file downloaded to be able to play the file.

That kills a little bit the sense of streaming

Can it not be like with youtube and other sites? So that the player does play directly and the video does download the rest while you watch the video?

It can stream, but it depends on the type of .MP4 and the metadata stored in the file. Not sure why it waits till the entire file is done though.

The simple answer is no, it can't be like YouTube (select anywhere on timeline). It must stream the old fashion way (download a bit, then play as it downloads) dynamic timeline is just not possible with HFS (not without ridiculous effort). But it shouldn't do what you described.

I could live without a dynamic timeline. I just like to have this:

We have all fast internet.

You mean when I install that player I should open the Direct Play URL with VLC? Or what do you mean?

yes, that may be an option, or i heard it's possible to embed VLC in web pages, but you are supposed to have VLC installed on every computer

I think the file is asking too much of flash player yes.

Also, what rejetto said but it is a pain to setup. There is examples if you search the forum.
