Title: what is the difference in permissions?
Post by: mike2003 on July 31, 2009, 02:27:11 PM
if folder on permissions properties - Access tab have no any flags set - anybody can read folders? 01.jpg
if in properties for folder set "Anyone" only - lock icons added in VFS section of HFS, but anybody still access 02.jpg

what is the difference in permissions? and for what lock icon if "anybody" set?

it is possible that i left the "anyone" there because it's needed for the other kind of permissions (upload and delete).

but i'm not sure, because "anyone" may make some use of it,
like having a public folder under a protected root.

does someone recall a good reason for the "anyone" on "access" permission ?

Rejetto,
This is probably repetetive coding.  "If check marked, set lock icon".  Even though they eventually do the same thing, some people prefer to "set" to anyone (my preference).  This is a visual that tells me that I have set permissions.  Maybe you should add an icon of an "OPEN" lock for the anyone flag and or leave blank.  My opinion (I restate it is my opinion only) is to force users to choose the anyone flag.  It's a verification that you set a permission to your folder.

Thank you for the great software.  Still learning to play with it

welcome, and thanks for suggestions.
hfs meant to be quick and easy, so the choice to not force the user to set permissions for the easy case.

Maybe the coding should default with the checkmark on "anyone".  This would get rid of the redundancy.
Wondering why my post count is so low.  I know I have more than 10 postings ...

Still learning to use the software.  Thank you
