Users interested in 'the flash thing' perhaps would like to look at http://camstudio.org/, this freeware thing creates avi and swf from screen, window or rectangle and works very good.

It is Open Source Software, not freeware. Nice find!

I think freeware (= free software, with free from freedom) is open source. But not all open source is free (without cost) nor free to use the source. But i know,  there is a big problem of definitions, they are not used everywhere the same way.
Examples:
- You get Acrobat-Reader for free - but it is not freeware nor opensource.
- Some companies sell software as 'open source', but restricting rights of modifying or making copies of the software.
your computer has no brain - use your own !

Freeware per definition means Software you are free to use, sometimes only when certain conditions are met (private, noncommercial use). You are not allowed to get the source and modify it.

Of course is open software free, but not 'free like freeware', it is 'free as in freedom'. The source is available and you are able to use it both privately and commercially. But the most important point of the GPL is, you may modify it but must redistribute it under the GPL and provide the source.
