it will just appear ONCE
after 10000 items
this is the message
You are putting many files.
This is just a warning, not an error.
You may notice slow operations.
Maybe real-folders could help you.
Read documentation or ask on the forum for help.

I know you've already done this, but how bout changintg the method of the notice from 10,000 items to actual loading times.  I had close to 10,000 items in a purely virtual vfs but it would only take about a minute and a half.

Perhaps something like 5 mins of loading would cause the message to appear.  Sample time from loading start compared to time sample from load finishing.  If a 5 minute difference loading the vfs, toss up the message.

I run on a 1.4Ghz Athlon(not XP) with 256MB of pc133 memory and windows 2000 sp4.  The problem could be related to the Athlon64 cpu and the windows version.  Try to run purely 64-bit drivers for best performance.

the message is not intended for those loading from VFS file, but adding/building the VFS, because i have to warn people ASAP.
the warning loading is just a side-effect.
indeed, i think virtual-folders are usually abused, so i'm trying to make people aware of alternatives.
you may be aware and ready to wait for over a minute, but most people are not.
if i'm not aware of such thing, i will get nervous after half a minute.
actually i lowered the threshold to just 1000.
most people don't read documentation, so i'm trying to help all those who will use virtual-folders with no awareness.

i think it should be like:

You are putting too many files.
You may notice slow operations.
Maybe real-folders could help you.
This is just a warning, not an error.

i cannot say "too", because it is not the sense of the message.
i noticed most people don't know what they are doing, so i warn them.
but someone will know what he is doing, and for him it is not too many.

the "not an error" sentence is on top just because i don't know if the user will read the whole long message, i think many people would panic and skip the rest. it is very important they don't think it is an error. HFS is able to manage many items.

it may sound strange to you, but i don't know a fast way to add the extra help button :)
