consider no one else reported a similar problem, so this may be related to your specific situation (other software, etc), and thus hard to work out.
answer to all of these
1. explain in detail what you mean by "server down", that may be in several ways. You may post a screenshot for ease.
2. when the server is down, can you access it with a browser on the same computer? (by clicking the "browse" button on HFS)
3. when the server is down, what does the "self test" report?
4. can you try to move HFS on a different computer and see if the problem persists?
