Since version 2.0 ("stable") up to 2.1beta9 ("untested") i get this message when checking if my server works:
"The test failed: server does not answer.
You are behind a router.
Ensure it is configured to forward port 7982 to your computer."
Port 7982 is forwarded on my computer.
Then i ask my friends and they tell me that my server works.

does it ALWAYS give the wrong answer?
if YES, then i guess it is a problem of the new host to connect to your ISPs

I get the same result, except of course my port is different.
But it says before Self Test " If you use HFS in a LAN this is
not for you" and I have a LAN. So I assume its warning me
it won't work, and I thought nothing of it.
After I read this post I tried it and it reset my port to 9000
(I think it was). It also screwed up the port in the .ini and I
had to "fix" it.
Since many people have a home network, it may cause those
who don't heed the warning problems? :?

i just noticed this warning is equivocal.
it was meant as "if you use in LAN only for other people in LAN", but it is not clear at all.
i changed it in next version with this sentence:
If you are not interested in serving files over the internet, this is not for you.
if you think something better, let me know

this is very strange.
i just tested it with a non-working setting, and a starting port 123, just to make the self test fail.
indeed, it failed, but after notifying me that it failed, it restored the port to the original value: 123.
this is the expected behaviour, if you find a way to reproduce your problem, let me know.
and, btw, what version are you using?

Yes, it does, always. Before 2.0 version, i never had this message.

i think so too. In all versions before 2.0stable, i had always correct messages and the SelfTest was always working fine.

I'm using 2.1 beta 9 on Win 98 SE. It's really not a problem for me,
as I hadn't used it lately. I know it's not the same purpose, but I
always use another computer on my LAN to check, or local host.

I don't have a suggestion because I don't fully understand if this is or
is not supposed to work if you are on a LAN, but I think its still not clear. :?

you are confused because of the old message
LAN or not LAN, it is for both.

ok, i made a temp solution.
all self test requests are forwarded to the previous hoster.
this should make the self test work correctly.
could you please test it?
