How to add mime-type .xpi ? Adding application/x-xpinstall didn't help

"application/x-xpinstall" is correct.
what's going wrong exactly?

For the rest, the correct functioning do not depend of hfs, but of Windows system. (I hope it)

Mars, thanks for your reply, but Windows file associations isn't case of mine :-)
When i click on Mozilla's site on the .xpi link immediately the proposal to install the addon pops up.
But when i click on my site, i get nothing, but prompt to download.

expert mode

menu -> other options -> mime types

xpi

application/x-xpinstall

shouldn this be the mime type for firefox extensions ? : - /

for me it works after i clicked open directly in browser and added ;*.xpi

In menu -> other options -> open directly in browser
(under mime types )

but only works when i visit my site over the dns

when im local it doesnt work : - /
