HFS ~ HTTP File Server / 2.0 coming...
« on: March 16, 2005, 03:02:04 AM »
Language templates...

Ever considered going PHP?  It'd require something as simple as a language directory and suer-submitted language.php files.  (english.php, polish.php..etc)

Would also make it possible to use a theme-folder, so users could select the theme, instead of the operator, as well as open up the possibility for user-created modules.

lmao....

Okay...  Because it's multiple files zipped into one file.  I thought I explained that.

You can already download multiple files from HFS...  Click a link, choose save as.  Click another, choose save as.....and so on, and so on....until your browser chokes.

Okay....you must have only read the last line.....

By multiple files, I mean multiple files zipped by the host into one.

Go back and re-read, you'll get it.

The suggestion above gives you the ability to set up a queue so that you don't have to "Save As..." for every file you download.  Mark several, tell the server to zip 'em and download the zip.  Quick, easy, and takes the same amount of bandwidth no matter what (actually less, since the files would now be compressed, whereas otherwise they may not have been).

And wow... the explanation of upstream vs. downstream...

Quote
In otherwords, they would experience slow download speeds from your server.

If  they download multiple files, they'll get them in the same amount of time as they would if they downloaded them one by one.  Your upstream speed does not slow down when uploading multiple files.  Their total downstream from you would remain the same, minus overhead.  The zip suggestion would actually remove some of that overhead.

Whee!

The checkmark option is easy.  VERY possible.  But can be SLOW for VERY large files.

Check the files you want, then click "send files to queue"

This would allow you to browse other directories and send other files to the queue as well.

Once all the files are requsted/sent to queue, the user would click "Edit Queue" button.  There, he could deselect files he/she didn't really want.  Also, they could remove files here and then go back and add more.  Once the queue is set to what the user desires, he/she would click the "zip" button.

A new page/tab would open, showing them the zip-progress.  Once it is complete, they can download the zip. Note that there should definately be a limit on zip-file size and on number of files to be zipped to keep it from getting out of hand.  These limits should be configurable based on the hosts PC resources.

This would DEFINATELY require a database of sorts, but I think you may already be considering using one.

Best way to implement this would be along with a user-database (users could sign up) and perhaps the ability to "plug-in" a forum of some kind.

I have seen this kind of thing used in newsgroup services (Easynews.com) and it works VERY well so long as limits are configurable.

The ability to download multiple files at once would be a HUGE leap for this program.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Help please
« on: December 21, 2004, 10:44:24 PM »
Never seen this problem with HFS, but I have with others.  It could be that another program is interferring with it in some way.

Close all other programs, including taskbar-only apps that are not absolutely necessary.  (Leave your Firewall and AV running if you have them.  Those ARE necessary)

See if that helps at all.  It could be a service, but that opens a big can o' worms you don't want to get into.

Only other suggestion is to re-download it (beta10) and start from scratch.

Next step would be an OS reload, but that depends on how important HFS is to ya.  ;)

Holidays are getting closer....

Can't wait.  Noticed a lot of suggestions that rejetto has responded to with :next release: so I am definately looking forward to it.

Good luck, mate.

Any chance we could put up a donation button, hold a Template contest and give the donations to the winner?    Might inspire a few more quality templates to choose from.

Thanks for the great program.  Beats all the others (including commercial) by miles.

HTML & templates / HFS Black - The Black HFS Template!
« on: December 21, 2004, 10:17:53 PM »
is iframe still a valid tag, or has that been made obsolete?  It might be an option to do that in order to get the upload bar.  It'd only need to be enabled during an upload so you might be able to switch back and forth between serever status and upload progress.

About the vars...couldn't those just be moved to the main body of the document so they'd be available at all times?

Regardless, great template, man.

Was also wondering...  would it be possible to make it so the client can change the refresh rate of the upload progress?  Make it client selecable somehow?  Drop-down, set increments, etc....

Just a thought.

Anyone wondered how hard it would be to take the HFS source and make a torrent tracker/site out of it?

Sweet.

LOVE the server status window at the bottom.  Any way that could double as a progress meter instead of having to add another frame?

also...  How hard would it be to add a "Back" and "Home" button across the top?  (And getting rid of the ugly "Parent Directory" crap)

Best template I've seen yet.

thx!

[Edit]
Figured out the "Back" and "Home" buttons on my own.:

find the "File Listing" code
Code: [Select]
<div style="float:right; padding:15px;"><a href="%encoded-folder%~files.lst" class=button><img border=0 align=absbottom src="/~img8"> File Listing</a></div>
Add these two lines below it:
Code: [Select]
<div style="float:right; padding:15px;"><a href="%parent-folder%" class=button><img border=0 align=absbottom src="/~img14"> Back </a></div>
<div style="float:right; padding:15px;"><a href="/" class=button><img border=0 align=absbottom src="/~img1"> Home </a></div>

then, simply remove the line that says %up% and the entire [up] section below that.

[/Edit]

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / 2.0 coming...

Matter of fact, I am.  Odd how that should affect it so.

Any ideas what in the template could cause something like this?  So's I know where to start looking?  I'd hate to have to go back to the basic one.  Looks nice and all, but...

BUG REPORT at least versions beta7 to current beta10.

Any folder or file with an apostrophe in it is inaccessible.

It displays the file/folder, but you cannot access the folder or download the file.

Examples:

Folder:
Anthrax [I'm The Man] 1987 EP

Cannot click on folder to view file list.

Renamed folder to "Anthrax [Im The Man] 1987 EP"

Now I can see the files, but cannot download them because each track contains the album name in the title. (including the apostrophe)

Any way you could fix this, or shall I simply go ahead and rename all my files?

[PM me if you need more info]
