hi guys.
my laptop automatically lowers the CPU speed when i'm on battery.
this saves energy, but also lowers the noise (by stopping the fan).
when i'm on my desk (no battery, connected to the AC line) the CPU is stuck to the higher voltage, even if the usage is under 5%. It's quite noisy in my opionion. :(
do you know any solution?
i tried NHC with no luck.

The first (funny) idea which comes to me to the spirit is that you buy quies balls ;D
You can also buy the second battery (who can replace the other one when yours will have returned the soul) and to work in alternation with the one or the other one while the second is in refill.

i cannot always use battery, for many reasons.
there's nothing in BIOS to specify how to act when on power cable.
and i found nothing in Windows settings to specify the CPU behaviour, it's automatic.

What about Powercfg and the parameter processor-throttle-ac and the specifications constant or degrade or adaptive

Normally balanced power-profile works with processor-throttle-ac:adaptive if processor/mainboard support it (acer-lowcost with celeron for example do). When balancesd is selected, cpuclock and voltage are regulated depending for processor load, no matter if battery is present or not.
If it does not work on your laptop, perhaps a biosupdate is available and may help.

Di you use the right syntax?
You habe to specify your selected power scheme.
powercfg /change powerscheme-name /processor-throttle-ac adaptive

Seems that your hardware/bios does not support processor-throttle-ac.

My laptop is a Toshiba and it has a Toshiba Power Saver Utility, with like 6 different profiles and the ability to create more. While I don't like to run too many processes on boot, I find its a handy utility over the built in windows settings.
From memory your laptop is a HP? or not, I cant remember. Does your laptops manufacturer provide a power saving utility?
Mine is actually the opposite, for some reason the cpu fan kicks in more when its on battery lol, i think its to cool the battery or something.

..but this is just guessing from my point of view, so if your case fan just keeps spinning while your on AC, its a software thing..
If its a harware thing, maybe some soldering would do the thing :-\ ;)

it is not only cpu depended, it is also gpu related.
So if you are a lucky guy with a separate grafic card the drawback is the extra heat.
The room temperature is also important.
If your cpu is an amd one you should install amd power now utility.
I don't believe that there exist any software that can fix the fan noise problem, but i'm not sure.
Some notebooks, like mine, has an hardware key to slow down the cpu speed.
But in my case without a significant effect.
One way you can try is to open system control, enery options, tab ==> energy schema.
I just noticed that in the dropdown box there is an option called 'minimum energy consumption'.
I never tried this option, maybe that helps.
In any case, some notebooks are realy noisy ...
The notebook manufactors seems not to be able to handle that correctly.
Play some cool sound with your stereo equipment and you will never here the cooling fan anymore. ;)

my laptop is an HP/Compaq 2510P
my GPU is an integrated intel (i never run recent games).
i can't use a laptop cooler because i use a docking station.
the "max battery" default schema doesn't help.
i'll try with this RMclock utility. it seems quite powerful (and hard to use).

If it does not work on your laptop, perhaps a biosupdate is available and may help.
since i updated the firmware the problem disappeared.
this will cool it down a bit.
