Title: directory permission
Post by: gobble on November 23, 2003, 07:21:33 AM
I know that HFS has the ability to create virtual directories and set permissions to those directories.  Is it possable to show only the directories and files that a users has permissions to when they logon.

I currently share different directories and files for different reasons and would like those users to only see the directories they have access to instead of the whole list of shared directories.

I know taht directories can be hidden adnthat is what I currently do but would rather give the users a list of there directories.

Let me know if this currently possable of it might be added as a feature

I know this is not the solution but i think you
can use a trick.

Put ONLY USER named directories into the root
of the server. So when one comes to the root page
he will se for eg.:
User1
User2
and so on.
Then he accesses his dir by logging in, and there he will
se only his stuff?

I hope u understand my baad english.

Thanks for the trick.  But really that is the same as having the other folders listed.  Plus I know know if I would like have a list of all the users listed on the main directory.  Once again, thanks.

Rejetto, any chance this could be a feature in the upcoming V2.0?

1) do as tgeri said
2) hide all folders
3) pass your friends the URL for their own folder

this way other users won't be able to access other folders

a feature for this? the problem is HOW to do that
maybe an option

[] Show protected items only to allowed users

what about it?

I am currently hiding the folders and giving them the exact URl and that is working.  It would be a nice feature to add so that you wouldn;t have to hide all the folders.

Thanks for the consideration

It is a good direction . I would do this:
1. show all users only folders that are NOT specified with  "access for users" list
2. show users that are "logged in" (how ?) folders in (1) + ones with their access
3. do not show anyone the "hidden" folders
