i created HFS because everyone has an http client, but (when i started) there was no good http server for file transfer

instead, there are already very good ftp servers out there
i can advice cerberus, filezilla and guildftpd

MAYBE one day HFS will support FTP
maybe in 2005 ;)

I completely agree with  your direction!
I also want to add "WARFTP" for those who are looking for a nice (free...) FTP server. There are also many many FTP clients , not forgetting  the IE6 browser itself ... ;).  so anyone that has IE6 - does, in fact, have an ftp client as well as http.

IE6 as ftp client is pretty unusable on slow connections
that's why i dropped the idea of using ftp as standard

I just like Http File Server because with a "HTTP" File Server you only have to map one port when you are behind a router! ;) And I like it too because it's very easy to set up :!:

I want to add SlimFtpD into the list. It's the smallest ftp what i know, and it has only a small fully readable config file. It's good and
easy to use.

I suggest to activate it only as an option (securuty issues). Also - better make sure it supports "resume" of stopped downloads.
