RAWR-Designs / Re: The Future of HFS Live 2
« on: July 20, 2009, 05:03:14 AM »
Wow.  I must say I'm VERY pleased that you've taken this up TSG.  I've always loved the simple look of the Live2 template, but when I went to edit it......let's just say my view of how simple it was changed. :P  Holy Sheesters!  I don't know you you're even making sense of any of that. :D

I can't wait to see your code.  All I gotta say is it better be easier and more understandable!  If I could make a suggestion, I'd like it to be able to have native image preview support.......meaning no preview generator program.  That's the #1 thing that was so great about that template.  It's a real pain not to be able to view the images without generating them.  If you can't do that at least make it so you don't have to click a button to see each and every image that you want to see a preview of.  That's what really gets me in the RAWR template.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: Probably A Simple Question But........
« on: July 20, 2009, 04:50:05 AM »
I don't know why it was displaying %2520 instead of %20 but it's not doing that any more.

I'm talking about linking like posting a link in a forum.  I've got it to work in the settings so this link will work:

IPADDRESS:PORT/members/john/super cool vid.avi

But this link won't work:

www.*********.com/members/john/super cool vid.avi

Since I have a dynamic IP, if someone links to a file via just my IP address, the link will not function after awhile.  Is there any way around this?

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Probably A Simple Question But........
« on: July 14, 2009, 06:05:18 AM »
Sorry if this is a terribly obvious question, but why can I not link to files when the filenames have a space in them?  For example, this URL will work:

www.*******.com/members/john/supercoolvid.avi

But this one will not:

www.*******.com/members/john/super cool vid.avi

It replaces the spaces with the characters "%2520" and I get a server error.  Is there any way to make this work?  My members are getting frustrated because their links won't work when the filenames have a space in them.  I'm guessing this is a setting in the HFS interface which is why I didn't post this in the HTML/Templates section.

I'm using a heavily modified version of RAWR, but it did the same thing when I used the standard template too.

You could always use your notepad and do find and replace with your url Tongue just a thought

I don't think you understand.  Almost everything has been made dependent on my server by the link path is like "www.*******.com/html/pages/cat1/disclaimer.html".  There are tons of them.  It would take forever to re-link everything because I'd have to download it to my server folder and link each and every file.  It would be much easier to simply remake the template when a better version of RAWR template came out, which is what I intend to do.  By that time I'll probably have more features and improvements anyways so it's not that big of a loss. ;D

I'm sorry to tell y'all this but I cannot share my template.  I've been getting a lot of emails recently asking if I could share my template and the answer has to be no.  I'm sorry but it just relies too heavily on dependencies that can only be used via my server.  Most of the files are linked via my DNS url and it's just a real mess.  If I gave out the template not only would people be able to access my real server, they would also be using my personal bandwidth to make their templates work.  I've spent forever trying to edit the template but every time I turn around there's more crap that needs to be removed and replaced.

But most of what my template is was taken from this forum.  If you really want my template why not take a look around and start copying and pasting?  I'd say about 10% of my code has been originally coded by me.  You can get a template that can do everything mine can by looking at all the topics in this forum.  I started with the basic RAWR black template.

I know I said I'd share it....but I didn't realize how dependent it was on my own server resources.  I've spent the last three hours trying to clean it up but to no avail.  I might re-make the template though once a better and more improved version of RAWR has come out (1.2 doesn't cut it for me.  I did add the new RAWR player to my template though).  I'll make sure not to make it so dependent on my server next time 'round.  When I made the template I never really thought about how I was going to share it but rather how I was going to make it WORK.

Yeah, I used PNG24.  It's not that hard.  I needed Photoshop CS3 to make them look decent but after you've made them in Photoshop CS3 (that exports in PNG32), it won't look decent in IE6.  I don't know if you can specify exporting to PNG24 in CS3 but I just opened and re-saved every image in Photoshop CS2 to convert them to PNG24 while preserving their transparency.

Then all you gotta do is increase the size of the icon box area and switch around the icons.  I think I just specified a new icon path and put the icons in a folder in the RAWR template folder.  It took 5 minutes to apply the icons.  Removing the white crap and converting them to PNG24 is what took some time and effort.

How about in the next version you add those cool icons from TOG?  I already did it on my customized template but I gotta say those icons for RAWR have got to go.  They're small, blurry, and have white crap all over them.  I forget how I added the icons from TOG to RAWR, but I remember it wasn't that hard:

EDIT:  Oh yeah, and I spent about an hour editing all of the icons for TOG because they too had white crap all over them.  They're still MUCH better than the RAWR icons though.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Server Speeds Slow For Some Users
« on: June 19, 2009, 04:03:47 PM »
I'm going to ask a simple question and hope it has a simple answer.  There's a friend of mine who lives in New York and he get's TERRIBLE speeds when connecting to my server.  I've been using HFS for about a year now and it's been like this since day 1.  Way before I installed the RAWR template.  I designed my own template and used that before....but I also went back to the default template just in case it was something I mucked up in the code.  Nothing helped.  I've been putting it off for some time, but he's fed up and I don't blame him.  Most of my users can get 5mbps+ but he can get like.....1.2kps-4.6kps.  He has a 2mbps connection, but he also has some wacko obscure ISP.  He lives out in the middle of nowhere and he has an ISP that's exclusive to his town.  Could it just be a connection issue and not an issue with HFS at all?  Perhaps something between the ISP's?  That's what I'm thinking because no matter what I do his speeds are so slow.  Even some guy from deep in Africa (don't know where the heck that guy came from or how he found my server) get's faster speeds on my server than my friend does.

That's okay.  I'm going to try something with a flash popup window.  Don't know if it'll work, but if it does it'll definitely be something I integrate into my permanent template.

Thanks a lot guys.  It works 100%.  This is why I need to learn Javascript better.  One question though.  I don't use popup blockers myself, so how would a popup blocker affect this new function?  Is there any way to make it pop up like the RAWR player does?  The RAWR player doesn't use another browser window so it shouldn't be able to be affected by popup blockers, right?

Naw it's not difficult to change the player.  Simply replace the .swf file.  But it has been giving me some trouble lately so I might eventually switch to the new RAWR player version that's supposed to come out soon if it has some significant improvements.

I might have to take the RAWR player apart and see what I can do with it.  I can't stand the fact that it doesn't disappear when you move your mouse away from the video.  I thought you could just change that when embedding the player, but It's not working.  I might have to take apart the fla file and take a look. :D

But to be honest the RAWR player isn't that great when playing MP3's.  Sometimes it's all scratchy and skips around.  The new player I embedded works much better (though there are some glitches).

EDIT:  But you should know that this new code isn't for noobs.  It's about three times as long as the original.....maybe longer.  In addition the file associations and links are pretty sensitive.  Because of this, I'm just going to put it all in an archive and insist that you don't move anything unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing.

Well, I can't share the code as of yet, but here's a snapshot:

I've added the ability to create/delete folders, rename files/folders, I've added an admin panel, I've added the cool icons from TOG to the RAWR template, I've added the ability for users to change their own passwords, I axed the RAWR player (replaced it with one that wasn't so....intrusive), and I've added a whole new stats bar at the bottom of the page (you can't see it in the picture).  All of the code for this was found on these forums and other places on the net, but I heavily modified most of it.  I had the sidebar on the left side for quite a while, but I decided to move it back to the right side.  I'm still working on it a lot.  That's why that ridiculous "Search Google" link is still on the top navbar.  I added that way back when I first got this template as a test and I never got around to removing it. :P

It does work....but the icons are like 5px by 5px.  How the heck are people supposed to be able to see those?  Nice image preview. ::)

I'll give anyone $5 if they can tell me what these images are:
