RAWR-Designs / Re: Live v3.0.1 - Released!

Actually I've gotten everything pretty much figured out so far.  Is there any way you could send me the original buttons without the icons on them so I can make matching buttons?  I tried to edit them in Photoshop, but there's just not enough of the visible button to sample.....

This is definitely a great improvement from the last version. ;D I've been looking into adding a rename and create folder option but unfortunately I can't seem to integrate them very well like I have with my current server running the original Live 3 system.  The rename and create folder options are absolutely essential to make a working server system.  What are the chances that they'll be included in the next release?  I've toyed around with the idea of adding all the cool features of live 3.0.1 to my original version, but I'm having problems with that too.

Also, what's the status of the flash upload feature?  If you haven't checked out this website, do it.  They've got a boatload of awesome scripts including a few flash uploaders.  Maybe you could study those and see if you could implement them in the next version.

I'm thinking of purchasing the AJAX multi uploader (though it requires PHP).  It's just freaking awesome.  If we could add something like that to Live 3, that would be incredible.

Use this HTML right after the body tag in all sections of the template:

Code: [Select]
<div align="center"><FONT
color="#ffffff" size="+1"><MARQUEE bgcolor="#000080"
direction="right" loop="20" width="75%"><STRONG>This
is cool!</STRONG></MARQUEE></FONT></DIV>

Check out the link in my sig.  You can use my older version of Live 3 (the one I was making when I made the posts in this topic), or you can wait for my newest version (check page 3 in the topic to see a screenshot).

I might integrate this into my new Live3 template if I can.  It'd be nice to have an admin panel in my template again.  I'd have to style it of course.  Can't stand ugliness/plainness when it comes to design in websites.

is it possible to give the option for the users to rename their own username using a template?

Yes.....but the only way I can think of doing it is by adding another line to the server code EVERY TIME you add a new member.  Unless of course you make it a free-for-all, but that's certainly not secure. :o

I used to have a RAWR template that had ALL the features of my Live 3 template and more, but I deleted it after I moved to Live 3.  And it looked nice too.  I'm afraid that FRENCH CAN CAN's templates work, but they don't look very nice.  Mine had the member tools on a scrolling sidebar on the side of the screen.  Wish I hadn't deleted it.  But ya know, I might just look for it.  I have all my computers networked together and including all my servers and computers, I have about 70tb (70,000gb) of files (not storage capacity, but FILES!).  I could still have it somewhere........

I should have everything finalized by Friday.  I'm working on a VERY complicated website at the moment and I just don't have the time for this.  On top of needing to finish this, like always I seem to link everything improperly.  So many resources are linked through my server so I can't release it like it is right now.  If I did, it'd kill my bandwidth with all you guys sucking off my connection. ;D  I just gotta stop linking the resources like this!  It takes me five hours just to make sure everything's re-linked properly!

IE version 6 is 8 years old, and i dislike spending time on supporting it.

AMEN to that!  With the glossy semi-transparent divs, 100% dynamically changing background image, and javascript slide-down menu, my server doesn't support IE6 at ALL.  And ya know what?  I don't care.  It's not like people in undeveloped countries with Windows 98 and IE6 are really gonna need to use my server anyways. ::)  I've also dropped support for IE6 in pretty much all my websites too.  This is a great tool to have if you're not supporting IE6 anymore:

http://www.ie6nomore.com/

Problem is, my new server design won't work with Firefox versions 2.0 and older.  I wish it was this simple to put a warning on there for firefox and other browsers.  There is a script out there, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

9
I'm still working on it.  The server template only works with IE8 or above.  I've created a warning that will come up if you're using a version of IE that's less than version 8 (with options and links to upgrade), but I can't seem to do something similar for the other browsers.  It only works 100% in Opera 9.0 and above and Firefox 3.0 and above.  Safari only 4.0 or above.  All versions of Google Chrome ironically.  I want to be able to warn people if they're using a browser that's too old to work with the server template so they don't think the website's screwed up.

Since the release of IE8, all the browsers must've made an agreement or something 'cuz if a website works in IE8, it'll work the same way in ALL other newest versions of browsers.  This is great.  We're almost out of the stone age. ;D

Simple.  Network your server and desktop computer together and edit the files through your network (not through the server).  That's how I do it.  I don't know of any other way.

I did try at one point, but with the member tools I have, I find it's much easier and better to just assign an admin and give them 100% access to upload/delete/access ALL files and folders on the server.  I mean, the only thing you can't do is remove/ban members remotely and I don't see why you'd need to do that.

But if you really want an admin panel, there's one floating around here.  It's not so great in the looks department, but it works pretty well.  You can always style it of course.

As to the new version, I'm still working on it and it's looking great!  Here's what I've got so far:

Just click the "Member Tools" button and a top menu expands to reveal tools that a member can use such as delete files/folders, rename files/folders, create new folders, and change password:

Current Control Bar:

Contracted (normal) View:

Expanded View (shows when you click the member tools):

I should also point out that I've made the background image stretch to the full size of the screen on ALL browsers AND resolutions!  Be warned however that if you're going to do this, use a DVD snapshot with FULL DVD resolution and quality.  If you don't, the image will look blurry on larger displays.

There's now a background behind the file list that's semi-transparent.  This allows you to put a background image on there while still maintaining a respectable level of readability.

There's no way to register remotely.  I tried and tried to get this working, but then found out that it was impossible due to limitations with HFS.  If I was screwing around with that feature, by default I always have non-working links go to Google.

There's a new version of this coming out soon.  In the new version, the member tools slide down from the top of the page and you're able to apply an image background that automatically adjusts size to 100% on ALL browsers AND resolutions!  Just made it today so I don't want to publish it yet (I want to test it first to make sure there aren't any bugs).

I only spent about 20 minutes or so trying to get it to work with my Live 3 template, but I too couldn't get it to work.  I didn't care that much though so I just gave up on it.
