Ok, let's try to figure things out:
1. i googled netgears support page "NETGEAR WGR614 v4"and got
http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101145.asp with detailed instructions for portforwarding on this specific router. But probably you've seen this page already.
2. to keep things simple, start HFS "ON" on port 80 and enter 127.0.0.1 into your favorite browser (hopefully Opera  ). This will work, even if you are disconnected from your router, because 127.0.0.1 is the standard IP adress of your machine where HFS is running on. You got your site in the browser? OK.
3. Make sure your machine is connected to your router and find out which IP adress is assigned to your machine by the router. Should be something like 192.168.0.2, the router IP is probably 192.168.0.1 . Check HFS by entering the LAN IP of your machine into your browser: 192.168.0.2 or whatever the assigned adress is. Does it work? OK.
4. Enter the IP adress of your router in your browser: 192.168.0.1 and the configuration menu of your router should appear. (REMARK: Make sure to secure your router with an unique username and password, never use the defaults! Some routers can be approached from the internet by connecting to IP:8080)
5. Follow the instructions of Netgears site: Advanced>Portforwarding:
Make sure to enter port 80 (start and end) and the correct IP of the machine where HFS is running! Make sure to have port 80 forwarded only once for all machines! Name it HTTP or HFS or whatever... Make sure the router saves the new configuration, maybe you have to save and restart?
6. The final test: find out what the IP of your WAN is (the internet outside IP) or your URL. Put it in your browser. Does it work? No ... don't panic:
your router firewall might intercept; at least mine did ...
go to
www.guardster.com and enter the adress in their free proxy, wait...
IT should work ... or there is something wrong with your router or your provider is blocking calls to port 80 (Are you allowed to have services running?
Good luck!
In case you have a dynamically assigned IP adress, you can fix your url with f.e.
www.dyndns.org for free and follow the instructions there.
